We're past the "does it work in the lab" phase - vehicles are in the field, and field vehicles find bugs the lab never does. We need someone whose job, starting day one, is to pick up those bugs and actually close them: reproduce it, find the real cause, fix it, ship it, tell the team what happened. To be clear about what this isn't: it's not a ticket-triage-and-forward job, and it's not "junior dev does the boring work while senior devs build features." You'll be shipping real fixes in the real codebase. You're just entering the codebase through "this broke on a vehicle" instead of "here's a clean feature spec." Once you've built up cross-subsystem fluency - which this role forces faster than sitting in one subsystem ever would - you move into owning subsystems and roadmap work like anyone else. What you'll actually be doing Take a field-reported anomaly (sensor stopped publishing, mission faulted mid-track, data stream drifted for no obvious reason) and figure out what subsystem it's actually in - not just where it was reported. Reproduce it for real. Replay recorded sensor/mission data through the live pipeline, pull it into visualization tooling, don't guess. Use the metrics and log infrastructure that already exists (per-service metrics, dashboards, centralized logs) to reconstruct system state at the moment things went wrong, instead of re-running until you get lucky. Confirm the fix in a simulated environment first, hardware-in-the-loop where that matters, before it goes anywhere near a real vehicle. Write the fix in whatever language the subsystem actually uses - Rust, C++, Python, Go, whatever — with tests, through CI, out through the normal versioned rollout. No special "triage" shortcut path. Figure out whether the actual problem is a bug, a bad config, or a deployment mismatch, and fix it at the layer where it actually lives instead of patching around it one level up. Write down root cause and fix for every issue you close. Not for the paperwork — so we can see, over months, which subsystems keep breaking and which tests we're missing. Help build the on-call/triage runbook this team doesn't have yet. Push back to the owning team when the real fix is "this subsystem needs to change," not "patch the symptom and move on." What you need to already have Real experience debugging code you didn't write, under time pressure, with incomplete information. This matters more than which language you know best. Enough comfort in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, Go to read and fix bugs in them. You don't need to be an expert in all four - you need to not freeze up when you're dropped into one you know less well. Systems-debugging instincts: pull logs and metrics, reconstruct what happened, reproduce offline from recorded data instead of only live. Some real exposure to observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana-class metrics, Loki/ELK-class logs) — you should already know how to use this stuff, not learn it here. Linux and systems fluency. Bonus if you've touched declarative/immutable OS setups (NixOS-style). The ability to write up what actually happened clearly, without padding it out or burying the cause. "The vehicle did something weird" is not an acceptable final answer from you. Willingness to work close to hardware and sensors even if you've never touched maritime or robotics before. We're not looking for domain background, we're looking for the debugging instinct. Willingness to travel 25%+ of the time on average Nice to have, not required Robotics middleware, sensor drivers, or real-time data pipeline experience (sonar, radar, lidar, whatever). Time in simulation-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop test setups. CI/CD and versioned deployment experience for embedded or fleet software. Actual on-call or field-support experience for hardware that ships to real users, not just internal tools. Where this goes This is a real entry point, not a holding pen. Do this well and you'll know more of the stack than most people who joined doing greenfield feature work — and that's exactly who ends up owning subsystems and driving roadmap next. ABOUT THE JOB As a Firmware Engineer on the Manufacturing Test team you will develop new platforms to interact with our products at the lowest levels (I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, USB, etc). ABOUT THE TEAM The Air Dominance & Strike team at Anduril develops aerial and multi-domain robotic systems. The team is responsible for taking products like Fury (unmanned fighter jet) and Barracuda (air-breathing cruise missile) from concept to product. The team also develops Lattice for Mission Autonomy, Anduril’s premier software platform that enables masses of Fury, Barracuda, and other first and third party robots to collaborate across various missions. ABOUT THE JOB We are looking for Android Engineers to join our team. As an Android Engineer at Anduril you will be architecting and building out user interface applications from backend to frontend, deploying them to users, and making sure they're meeting users' requirements. You will be working alongside a team of engineers with diverse backgrounds as well as engaging with internal and external stakeholders. Your decisions will have a large impact on the company today and into the future. We believe that simple systems are easier to understand, maintain, and scale. You will be making trade-offs as you work to ensure that our systems are prepared to scale — being able to effectively communicate these trade-offs with your teammates is key. What You’ll Do Design, build, test, and deploy real-time, map-based user interfaces for displaying and interacting with sensor data and controlling the Fury, Barracuda and Roadrunner aircraft from an Android application through the Android Tactical Assault Kit’s (ATAK) plugin ecosystem to enable tactical control for end users. Define and implement APIs for network communications, real-time telemetry, vehicle configuration, sensor/payload control with full motion video streaming, manual controls, and autonomous tasking. Help define foundational software architectures, visual designs, and user experience/interaction workflows for multiple UAS, working directly with chief engineers, product designers, program managers, flight test engineers, and end-user customers to demonstrate capability and iterate on feedback. Work directly with Android frontend technologies like Jetpack Compose, high-performance backend technologies like Java/Kotlin/C++/Rust/Golang, and software product lifecycle technologies likes CMake/Cargo/gradle/NixOS/CircleCI/Docker. Work directly with the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) SDK and the TAK Product Centers’ developer community (see tak.gov for more information). Work alongside engineers using multiple other full stack technologies like TypeScript/React, C++/Qt, and C#/.NET. Test and evaluate your software at multiple levels of rigor using simulations, benchtop hardware, and live flight assets. Experience developing software for user interface applications, especially high-traffic, data-intensive, or map-based systems Proficiency with modern Android programming languages including Jetpack Compose, XML, Java, and Kotlin. ABOUT THE TEAM Anduril’s Hardware Test Operations team is focused on organizing and reporting on all of Anduril’s products through their respective development. The Hardware Test Data Operations team builds the data infrastructure and analytical tools that power Anduril's Hardware Test function — turning telemetry, test records, and incident data into consistent, automated views of how our systems are performing across the fleet. The work spans the full data pipeline: how data is created on the platform, how it's collected and egressed to the cloud, how it's modeled, and how it reaches the engineers, managers, and leaders who act on it. We're a new team within the Hardware Test organization, and we're looking for someone willing to get their hands dirty and make high-impact, foundational changes to the way we collect, analyze, and leverage our data - work that will directly increase the velocity of the organization. Ideally you are passionate about the next generation of defense technology and are looking to become a technical expert in all of Anduril’s products. ABOUT THE JOB You'll take defined work-streams end-to-end — ingestion pipelines, data models, dashboards, and the small services that tie them together — so the team can run more of them in parallel. You'll partner closely with product-line Hardware Test teams, software and infra teams, and corporate analytics to ship real, production-grade data products that replace and enhance the tools we rely on today. Executional autonomy is a foundational pillar of this team. You'll be expected to drive the design, the partnerships, and the delivery. We're looking to encourage you to be a collaborator that feels comfortable proposing alternative solutions and even helping give shape to how the team executes over time. WHAT YOU'LL DO Own data workstreams end-to-end from ingestion of source data through Foundry transforms and ontology modeling to the dashboards and tools that consume them Build and maintain Foundry pipelines, data models, and data quality checks Build internal-facing dashboards and analytics products that serve flight test engineers, middle management, and leadership Write small production services (Python or Go) when integrations demand it — webhooks, bridges, daemons — and partner with the broader SWE organization when the work belongs with them Partner directly with product-line Hardware Test leads, software engineering teams, and infrastructure teams to align on data contracts, ingestion patterns, and shared priorities Write clear design docs and RFCs that align stakeholders around technical decisions before code ships REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 3+ years of data engineering, platform engineering, or equivalent experience owning data systems end-to-end Strong Python and SQL; experience with DataFrame-based transforms (Pandas, PySpark, Polars, or similar) Experience owning a data pipeline or integration end-to-end from ingestion through to a downstream consumer (dashboard, service, or model) Hands-on experience integrating with REST APIs, webhooks, or third-party data sources Experience building internal-facing dashboards or analytics products — owning the full stack from data to UI Comfortable working on a small team (1-3 people) where scope is fluid and you're often the only person on your piece of work Think like a data product owner — when building a pipeline or model, you can independently reason about what questions it needs to answer downstream, not just what data to move Write clear design docs and technical RFCs that align stakeholders, not just serve as documentation after the fact Experience with ontology modeling or data modeling for heterogeneous sources U.S. Persons status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with Palantir Foundry — transforms, ontology, Workshop, Streamlit Experience in robotics, aerospace, defense, or hardware-adjacent data environments Comfortable reading or contributing to git repos in languages other than Python (e.g. Go, Nix, Terraform, etc.) Experience using agentic coding tools as part of your daily workflow Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance US Salary Range $146,000 — $194,000 USD The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only.
