Join Axon and be a Force for Good. At Axon, we’re on a mission to Protect Life. We’re explorers, pursuing society’s most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other. Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter. Your Impact You will be part of a high-impact engineering team that develops embedded software for Axon devices, ensuring critical evidence is captured during mission-essential moments for our customers. This is an opportunity to work alongside talented software and firmware engineers and contribute to the creation of next-generation public safety products, including body-worn cameras, in-car audio-video systems, TASERs, wireless microphones, and more. As a Firmware Validation Engineer I, you are a key quality voice for one or more Axon products, partnering with firmware, software, and hardware engineering to ship products customers can trust. You'll own testing for your product area with increasing independence, contribute to departmental testing standards, and help leadership make informed calls on coverage, bug severity, and release risk. Your work directly shapes product quality, customer trust, and release timelines. Location: Scottsdale, AZ Reports to: Software Engineering Manager Direct Reports: N/A What You'll Do: Own execution of release regression (manual and automated), exploratory testing, as well as impacted areas for individual new features, scoping coverage to risk and release timelines. Design and maintain the test strategy for assigned products/domains: test case creation and prioritization, and traceability from requirements (PRD/Jira) through to test cases in a test management system (e.g., Zephyr Scale). Partner with engineering under the shift-left model: review dev-authored test plans and acceptance tests, flag coverage gaps, and own the testing that engineering can't do alone (regression, exploratory, and specialized/environmental/vehicle testing). Investigate and document defects; represent QA in bug triage, pushing back on premature “won’t fix” calls with reproducible evidence and customer-impact data. Lead release-readiness reporting including feature quality reports, test execution status, and production-vs-staging escape analysis to inform go/no-go decisions. Identify and drive test tooling and process improvements (dashboards for regression/performance monitoring, new test-equipment integrations, AI-assisted test case generation) to increase coverage and efficiency. Coordinate with Engineering, PM/TPM, and hardware/RF labs to resolve scheduling, access, and documentation gaps that block testing. Manage multiple concurrent test cycles and releases with minimal oversight, setting priorities across competing deadlines. What You Bring 3+ years in software, firmware, or hardware quality assurance / validation engineering, ideally on complex, multi-component products. Experience with embedded or connected-device products (firmware and hardware-software integration). Hands-on experience with test case design, test execution, and automated testing methodologies. Working experience within a test management and requirements-traceability practice, using Jira, Zephyr Scale (or equivalent), and log analysis tools (e.g., Splunk). Working knowledge of scripting/automation (Python or similar) and CI/CD-integrated test frameworks. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. Familiarity with hardware and environmental test methods: RF, GPS/GNSS, environmental chambers, and connectivity (LTE/Wi-Fi) testing is preferred. Experience using AI tools for test case generation, traceability, and test data analysis is highly preferred. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other. Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Your Impact As a contributor in the APX platform engineering organization on the CloudNet team, you focus on solving real-time problems for mission-critical cloud-native services—and on the quality and reliability our customers expect. You'll work closely with teams operating Axon systems around the world, and your technical influence extends across engineering because every product needs sound guidance for how it connects and scales in Axon's overall networking picture. A typical week blends Kubernetes networking, service mesh (for example Istio and Envoy), ingress and gateways, TLS and certificate automation, DNS and public-edge routing, and production incidents where fixing the issue means tracing HTTP, DNS, load balancing, and cloud edges end to end. In this role, you'll ship automation and reliable cloud-based platforms (we have no data centers, so there is no rack-and-stack in this role). Work Location: This role is based out of our Seattle office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. We believe that connection fuels innovation, and our in-office culture is designed to foster meaningful teamwork, mentorship, and shared success What You'll Do Work on a mixed infrastructure and software team that owns critical platform networking for Axon's cloud systems: mesh and ingress, TLS and certificate automation, DNS and edge routing, and the automation that keeps those paths safe and observable. Advance Axon's use of Istio-style service mesh patterns that underpin how we scale—building features, hardening what runs in production, and improving how we roll out change. Act as a builder and operator: ship infrastructure-as-code and software-backed controls, steward components that must meet strict regulatory expectations (including FedRAMP where applicable), and address vulnerabilities with timely, disciplined change. Advise software engineers through design reviews, ad hoc questions, and pair programming when connectivity, ingress, mesh, or TLS behavior is on the critical path. Automate operations so the platform stays highly available (targeting four-nines-class reliability for these components). Example: TLS certificate management and automation at scale—where small mistakes can become customer-visible outages if left manual. What You Bring Six or more years working on globally diverse, 24/7, high-volume production systems. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science At least one strong track record from the following (we do not expect every candidate to match every item): Operating critical components or services in Kubernetes clusters at meaningful scale (ingress, gateways, mesh, or similar). Infrastructure-as-code and automated delivery on public cloud (Axon uses Azure; other major clouds are fine). Production software in Python, Go, or Java (including Scala) for infrastructure, tooling, or reliable services—not only one-off scripts. Production ownership of service mesh, ingress, TLS/certificate automation, DNS or public-edge patterns, or secure east-west traffic in cloud environments. Excellent problem-solving skills debugging cloud-native distributed systems (HTTP/TLS, DNS, load balancing, Kubernetes networking). Familiarity with a GitOps-style approach to software and infrastructure delivery. Empathy for software engineers with widely varying depth in networking—meeting people where they are, without talking past them. Note: This role is centered on cloud-native platform engineering and software-backed automation. It is a weaker match if your experience is primarily traditional enterprise network operations (for example campus switching or appliance-only administration) without substantial Kubernetes operations, software delivery, or infrastructure-as-code. Benefits that Benefit You Competitive salary and 401k with employer match Discretionary paid time off Paid parental leave for all Medical, Dental, Vision plans Fitness Programs Emotional & Mental Wellness support Learning & Development programs Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) And yes, we have snacks in our offices Benefits listed herein may vary depending on the nature of your employment and the location where you work.
