AI Platform Engineer, Developer Productivity

On-sitefull timeMid-LevelSan Francisco, United States

Our Mission Rebuild how the world works, to make institutions work better for the people they serve. About Brain Co. Brain Co. builds AI-native operating systems for large, regulated institutions. Each system is built for a specific industry, powered by agents that push real workflows forward. Underneath it all is Atlas, our proprietary platform that keeps customers in control, secure by design, and never locked into one model. Why Now Brain Co. is entering its next phase of production deployments on a national scale with an elite team built from Palantir, Google, Meta, and Nvidia, and a growing footprint across government, insurance, health, and financial services. Joining now means shaping both the company and a new category of applied AI. Every project here ships to production and is expected to create measurable customer value and impact. You'll work alongside exceptional peers on some of the hardest problems in applied AI. It’s the kind of work you'll still be proud of in ten years from now. What You'll Work On You'll join the team that owns the Software Factory: the development environments, build systems, CI/CD, and engineering automation that set the ceiling on how fast every other engineer at Brain Co. can ship high-quality software. This is a force-multiplier role: your work compounds as we add teams, services, and customers. You'll shape how engineers develop, test, review, and ship software, combining developer tooling, reliable infrastructure, and AI-assisted workflows to improve speed and quality across Brain Co. Your job is to discover, measure, and remove developer friction. You should be comfortable going from “this workflow is slow or confusing” to instrumented evidence, a shipped improvement, and clear before/after impact. Own developer environments and build infrastructure Own the local development experience, monorepo, build systems, and shared tooling. Make it easy for engineers to set up, develop, and test software, with fast and reliable workflows as the company scales. Build delivery workflows and engineering automation Own CI/CD, PR workflows, code-review automation, and shared tooling for product quality assurance. Integrate AI-assisted development and coding agents where they improve speed and quality, supporting delivery across cloud, regulated, and air-gapped environments. Measure and improve developer experience Discover, measure, and remove friction across the development lifecycle. Combine developer feedback with instrumentation to shorten feedback loops, improve reliability, and demonstrate clear before/after impact. Drive onboarding, enablement, and adoption Help engineers become productive quickly through intuitive tooling, documentation, and practical support. Guide teams through new workflows and migrations, and drive adoption through quality, not mandates. Operate the developer platform as a product Own the full lifecycle: architecture, implementation, rollout, reliability, and iteration based on internal user feedback. Partner closely with engineering, Infrastructure, and Security to build a platform teams trust and want to use. You Might Be a Great Fit If You… We're looking for engineers who treat developer experience as a product — engineers who reach for users, not just specs. Developer Platform & Build Systems Have 3+ years building developer-facing infrastructure: monorepo platforms, build systems, CI/CD, or internal tooling. Have hands-on depth with at least one modern monorepo tool (Nx, Bazel, Pants, Buck, Turborepo) and the willingness to go deeper. Have strong fluency with CI/CD systems at scale (GitHub Actions, Buildkite, CircleCI, or similar): matrix design, caching strategies, secret flow, parallelism. Are fluent in at least two of: Go, Python, TypeScript, Rust, Bash. Have experience building automated testing or code-quality workflows that engineers trust. Platform & Product Mindset Have shipped developer platforms that real engineers adopted. Have measured developer friction and shown clear before/after impact from tooling, CI, build, release, or workflow improvements. Have strong intuition for developer experience, paved paths, and long-term maintainability. Are comfortable owning the full lifecycle: design doc, MVP, hardening, adoption. Can help teams adopt new tools and migrate existing workflows through clear documentation and practical support. Production & Reliability Have owned developer-facing systems with real uptime and operational responsibility. Are familiar with observability tooling and incident response. Bring strong fundamentals in retries, idempotency, queueing, and failure modes for reliable build and automation systems. Ways You Might Stand Out Built or integrated coding agents, automated code review, or AI-assisted testing into engineering workflows, with measurable improvements in speed or quality. Experience with sandboxed code execution, credential scoping, or security controls for development agents. Built or significantly contributed to a remote build cache, custom build system, or hermetic build pipeline (Bazel, Nix, etc.). Led a polyrepo → monorepo (or reverse) migration at scale. Experience applying DORA / SPACE or other DX metrics in practice. Background in release engineering, supply-chain security (SLSA, Sigstore), or artifact management. Built internal PaaS, dev environments, or scaffolding generators. Built shared quality-assurance infrastructure, such as end-to-end test harnesses, Storybook / visual-regression tooling, accessibility checks, or performance budgets across apps. Open-source contributions to Nx plugins, GitHub Actions, coding-agent tooling, or related developer platforms. Exposure to multi-tenant, regulated, or air-gapped deployment environments. Why This Role Matters You'll set the ceiling on how fast every other engineer at Brain Co. can ship. As we grow from a handful of teams to dozens — building AI systems for governments and regulated industries — the platform that lets us move quickly without breaking what matters becomes one of the highest-leverage systems in the company. Benefits Competitive salary plus equity Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage 401(k) Unlimited PTO Daily lunches Commuter benefits

You'll work alongside exceptional peers on some of the hardest problems in applied AI. It’s the kind of work you'll still be proud of in ten years from now. About the Role We are looking for a Security Engineer, Detection & Response to build and operate our detection and response capabilities as Brain Co. expands. Reporting directly to the Head of Security, you will partner closely with engineering, infrastructure, infrastructure security, IT, and operational teams to protect our environments and respond effectively to security incidents. This is an engineering-focused builder role rather than a passive alert-monitoring position. You will strengthen our security posture from the ground up: designing high-signal detections, automating triage and investigation workflows, leading cross-functional incident response, and converting incident findings into safer engineering defaults across the company. The program is early enough that your judgment will shape the tooling, workflows, metrics, and operating model—not just the alerts you investigate. You will have significant autonomy to improve signal quality, streamline integrations, and turn incident lessons into stronger engineering defaults across the organization. What You’ll Build & Own Design, build, and maintain automation, playbooks, and systems for timely triage, investigation, and incident response, using sound software engineering practices and modern AI tools where they add value. Develop and refine high-signal detections so security findings are actionable and noise is minimized. Integrate security telemetry and tooling across our cloud and application stack to enable consistent investigation and self-service triage. Lead cross-functional incident response across applications, cloud infrastructure, endpoints, identity, and internal services. Translate incident data and response metrics into secure-by-design improvements alongside product and infrastructure teams. Practical experience with EDR, SIEM, SOAR, log-management, or equivalent detection-and-response tooling. Ability to write code and build software automation or detections in at least one relevant scripting or query language. Strong understanding of modern cloud infrastructure and SaaS security principles. Sound risk-based judgment when prioritizing threats and operational tasks. Ability to make sound, timely decisions with incomplete information during active incidents. Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration skills during high-pressure situations. Preferred Experience Building self-serve security triage automation or AI-assisted response capabilities. Threat hunting, digital forensics, threat intelligence, or infrastructure-as-code security controls. Investigating complex security events within containerized or Kubernetes-based cloud environments. Translating security incident trends into architectural or systemic engineering improvements. Experience navigating security challenges in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments. On-Call Expectation This position includes participation in a regular on-call rotation to support rapid response to critical security incidents and maintain operational resilience. Equal Opportunity and Accessibility Brain Co. is an equal opportunity employer.
