Available Locations: Austin Role Summary Back in 2014, Cloudflare launched Universal SSL to provide all of our customers with the security of encrypted traffic between visitors and Cloudflare’s network. On the day we flipped the switch, we doubled the amount of sites using SSL/TLS on the internet. Since then, we’ve been working on providing even more ways to encrypt traffic easier and more effectively. To better serve our customers, we’re constantly improving our systems for issuing, managing, and deploying TLS certificates. By joining Cloudflare’s SSL/TLS Team, you can help ensure that every site owner has the ability to provide their users with a secure connection. Your code will help ensure millions of websites have access to encryption. As such, the results of your code will be felt by millions of site owners and billions of visitors every day. Your contributions will help make the web a faster, safer, better, and more heavily encrypted place. Cloudflare is looking for a Systems Engineer to help us build services with RESTful APIs and their own datastores using Go and other languages. You will also write and maintain functional specifications for your service, so others know how it works. In this role you will integrate multiple services via message queue systems and evaluate 3rd party and open source tools. You will design and implement alerts, write procedures for ops to handle such alerts, or serve as an escalation point for unresolved operational issues. You will also need to read and understand code from a legacy codebase to migrate logic to a modern services architecture and review the code of fellow engineers via pull requests. We strive to build reliable, fault-tolerant systems that can operate at Cloudflare’s scale. Role Requirements (Must-Have Skills) 3+ years of professional experience building backend systems at a technology company Experience writing production-quality code in Go (or other languages with a willingness to learn Go) Proven experience building and operating distributed systems Proficiency with modern Unix/Linux development and runtime environments Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail Track record of delivering well-tested, reliable code for production environments Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and full-stack applications Familiarity with PKI/TLS concepts and certificate management Experience writing technical documentation and specifications Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL Understanding of distributed systems constraints: performance, caching, data storage/retrieval Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc) What Makes Cloudflare Special? Available Locations: Austin (US), London (UK) About the Role Reporting to the Vulnerability Manager, the VM Engineer will be responsible for identifying, analysing, and supporting the remediation of vulnerabilities across Cloudflare's Infrastructure and cloud environments.You will work closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, cloud and compliance teams to identify, triage, and drive timely and effective remediation of security vulnerabilities in line with defined SLAs. A key focus of the role will be supporting DOD IL4 and Fedramp preparation, ensuring vulnerability processes, evidence, and tooling align with regulatory and assurance requirements. You will also apply AI-driven tools and methodologies to enhance scanning efficiency, triage accuracy, and automated remediation pathways. We are looking for a proactive, detail oriented individual with the ability to manage multiple remediation activities in parallel. Responsibilities Conduct vulnerability scanning, and perform in-depth analysis of findings from scanning tools (e.g., Qualys, Nessus, Rapid7), to verify accuracy, identify systemic patterns, and filter out false positives. Triage, validate and prioritise vulnerabilities using risk based approaches to determine real business impact, and working with engineering and compliance teams to agree remediation actions and timelines. Develop, document, and deliver technical remediation guidance and solutions to enable application and infrastructure teams to remediate efficiently and consistently. Support DOD IL4 and Fedramp preparation, by ensuring vulnerability management processes, evidence, reporting, and controls meet regulatory and assurance expectations. Work closely with engineering and service teams to embed vulnerability management into delivery pipelines , operational processes and change management. Leverage AI security tools and automation to streamline triage, pattern recognition, and risk prioritisation. Establish strong relationships with engineering teams to track and report status and remediation progress Manage and track the remediation backlog, maintaining focus on risk reduction and measurable progress. Contribute to the continuous improvement of vulnerability management standards, procedures, and playbooks, ensuring alignment with IL4, Fedramp and other compliance requirements. Must-Have Skills Solid understanding of DoD Impact level IL4, FedRAMP, SOC-2, and PCI frameworks. 3+ years Vulnerability Management experience in a heavily regulated environment. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or security certifications in a related field. Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical teams. A strong understanding of CVSS (Common Vulnerability Scoring System) and how to apply risk assessment methodologies in a business context to support remediation.. Hands-on experience with vulnerability scanning platforms (e.g., Qualys, Nessus, Rapid7 InsightVM). Strong analytical skills to identify patterns in data and distinguish between theoretical risk and actual exploitability. Practical experience using AI-powered security tools or generative AI assistants to accelerate vulnerability triage, code analysis, or remediation guidance. Nice-to-Have Skills Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation. Proficiency in using ticketing tools like JIRA for managing tickets and tasks. Experience integrating LLMs or AI APIs into cybersecurity workflows and automation pipelines. Hands on experience with Infrastructure pentesting tools.
