This is a rare chance to help build a generational company at a true inflection point. We have strong product-market fit and world-class investor support. We’re scaling fast and defining a new category in real time. The work is ambitious, the bar is high, and the opportunity for growth — personal, professional, and financial — is unmatched. Our team moves fast, takes ownership, and is deeply committed to the mission — operating with intensity, staying close to our customers, and pushing each other for excellence. We live by three values: Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job's Not Finished. We act quickly on clear judgment over perfect information, we believe simplicity is what scales, and we're never satisfied with where we are. If you want to do the best work of your career alongside people who share that drive, we'd love to build with you. At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today — and we’re just getting started. Role Overview The Software Engineer, New Grad joins Harvey's Engineering team, working alongside experienced engineers to build the AI-powered systems that serve the world's leading law firms and enterprises. The team's mission is to deliver secure, intuitive, and high-performance application-layer experiences that turn frontier AI capabilities into real customer value. This role offers an accelerated path to ownership, contributing production code to features spanning retrieval, document intelligence, and workflow automation from day one. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences. Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers. Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to how Harvey's platform evolves. Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data. What You Have Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduated either in Winter 2026 - Spring 2027. Able to work from our New York or San Francisco office starting in January 2027 and beyond, based on your graduation schedule. Relocation support is available. Previous internship experience is required. Technical foundation. Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge. Decisiveness. You have a bias toward action. You've built something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship, and you know the difference between a decision you should make yourself and one worth getting feedback on. You'd rather move and correct course than stall. Simplicity. You can explain a complex technical idea in plain language, whether or not the person you're explaining it to is an engineer. You look for the simplest solution that works, and you know when added complexity is worth it. Job's Not Finished. You aren't satisfied when something merely works. You proactively seek out feedback, act on it, and keep pushing after the assignment is technically complete. Past internship experience at an early-stage startup is a plus. AI Forward. Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and curious about building LLMs into your own coding workflow. Compensation $165,000-$181,500 Depending on your location, an Applicant Privacy Notice may apply to you. Why Harvey At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate. By combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise, we’re reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done for decades to come. Role Overview As a Staff Software Engineer on the Security Engineering team, you will be a founding member of the team and define and drive the technical strategy for identity and access at Harvey — both how customers authenticate to Harvey, as well as how internal employees, contractors, and non-human identities access company systems, what they are authorized to do, and how seamlessly access adapts as needs change. Challenges ahead include exploring how AI-powered access management can understand employee needs, recommend appropriate permissions, streamline decisions, and adapt access as roles and responsibilities evolve, as well as shaping an end user/agent authentication experience that makes signing in to Harvey fast, consistent, reliable, and secure across every surface where our customers work. You will operate at the boundary of security, infrastructure, and product engineering — turning ambitious business and technical requirements into durable identity platforms, clear architectural direction, and exceptional user experiences. This role is hands-on, but its primary leverage comes through technical direction, platform adoption, cross-functional alignment, and enabling other engineers to build on strong identity foundations. What you'll do Define Harvey's multi-year technical strategy for identity, authentication, authorization, and privileged access. Design and build complex identity systems from greenfield — writing the code, instrumenting it, and owning it in production. Lead the architecture and execution of cross-functional initiatives to right-size access at scale, spanning identity and authentication, permissions and authorization, entitlement modeling, and access controls. Extend the identity model to non-human and agentic identities, so that AI agents acting on behalf of users are authenticated, scoped, and auditable. Serve as the technical authority for identity and access architecture and guide major design reviews, investment decisions, and long-term roadmaps. What You Have 10+ years experience building and operating production software, with demonstrated impact across multiple teams or technical domains. Deep expertise in several identity and access engineering domains — authentication, federation, authorization, entitlement modeling, or privileged access. Fluency with AI: you use AI-assisted development tools effectively while applying strong engineering judgment, and you design agentic workflows that automate repetitive toil and improve how teams operate. Experience designing identity or authorization platforms, libraries, or abstractions used by other engineering teams. Experience delivering foundational systems that achieve meaningful adoption and improve organizational or customer outcomes. Experience with cloud infrastructure, such as Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon Web Services, and modern distributed-system patterns. Strong communication skills and the ability to create alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Nice to have Experience with System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM), OpenID Connect (OIDC), Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), policy engines such as Open Policy Agent (OPA) or Cedar, Zanzibar-style authorization systems, or hardware-backed credentials. Experience with identity governance and administration (IGA) or privileged access management (PAM) platforms, and with automating joiner, mover, and leaver workflows. Experience building identity platforms or programs at a hyper-growth startup. Experience with regulated environments such as FedRAMP, including phishing-resistant authentication and authenticator assurance requirements. Compensation $231,000 - $340,000 USD Depending on your location, an Applicant Privacy Notice may apply to you. You can find all of our Applicant Privacy Notices [ here ]. #LI-NP1 Harvey is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy or related condition, or any other basis protected by law. Why Harvey At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate. By combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise, we’re reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done for decades to come. Role Overview As a Staff Software Engineer on the Security Engineering team, you will join as a founding team member and build the security foundations that let Harvey put increasingly capable AI agents to work. You'll lead development of a platform for agents to perform security work, while shaping how agents are sandboxed across our product and internal platforms. One of the central challenges is enabling models with advanced cybersecurity capabilities to discover and validate vulnerabilities automatically, including through authorized penetration testing, while protecting sensitive data and systems. You'll build the execution environments, orchestration, and controls that make this possible, and help enable the internal use of open-source models with appropriate protections around inference, tool use, and data access. You'll work closely with the teams building Harvey's product sandbox and internal AI agent platform, shaping architecture and contributing production code to strengthen execution boundaries. Your impact will come from shipping systems, establishing a shared technical direction, and making security capabilities reusable across teams. You'll own work from design through rollout and operation, balancing containment with the reliability, performance, and flexibility that useful agents need. What you'll do Set the technical direction for secure agent execution, working across Security, Infrastructure, and Product Engineering to turn emerging capabilities and risks into a concrete roadmap. Design, build, and operate a platform for security agents to discover and validate vulnerabilities within authorized targets and execution boundaries, producing reproducible evidence that engineers can act on. Build reusable controls for agent tool use, code execution, network and filesystem access, resource consumption, and workload lifecycle. Integrate with identity and secrets platforms to limit access to the data and credentials each task needs. Partner with the owners of Harvey's product sandbox and internal agent platform to make architectural decisions, implement protections, and integrate shared security capabilities into their execution environments. Enable internal use of open-source models alongside infrastructure teams, building protections around model serving, agent execution, and sensitive-data handling. Develop adversarial tests, evaluations, and telemetry that verify containment and expose failures. Build mechanisms to scope, observe, interrupt, and safely terminate agent activity. Lead delivery and adoption across teams, mentor engineers, and remain hands-on through implementation and production operation, making clear tradeoffs across security, reliability, latency, and cost. What You Have 10+ years developing and running production software, including technical leadership on initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams. Strong software engineering skills in languages such as Go, Rust, Python, or C++, with practical experience in Linux systems, networking, and containerized infrastructure. Deep expertise in one or more areas of execution security, such as sandboxing, operating-system isolation, container or virtual-machine security, or platforms that execute untrusted code. You can translate threats into enforceable boundaries and test how those boundaries fail. Experience building shared platforms, services, or libraries and helping other teams adopt them through clear interfaces, documentation, and safe migrations. Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, including observability, failure handling, capacity management, and dependable production operation. Fluency with AI-assisted engineering and agentic workflows: you use models to accelerate development, validate their output, and reason about the risks introduced when agents use tools, execute code, or access sensitive data. Why Harvey At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate. By combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise, we’re reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done for decades to come. Strong communication and technical judgment, with a record of bringing teams to agreement on ambiguous problems and carrying decisions through to delivery. Nice to have Experience with microVMs, hypervisors, or sandbox runtimes such as Firecracker, gVisor, or Kata Containers, or Linux isolation mechanisms such as namespaces, seccomp, and Landlock. Experience building agent runtimes, tool-execution frameworks, or automated security-testing platforms. Experience with vulnerability research, penetration testing, or adversarial evaluation of agent systems, including turning findings into reproducible tests and effective controls.
