ABOUT THE ROLE Mitratech is seeking a senior Site Reliability Engineer III to own and evolve our CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and cloud platform engineering practice. AWS is the primary cloud platform -- you will work daily with a broad AWS service footprint including compute (EC2, Fargate, EKS, Lambda), messaging (SQS), data (RDS, Aurora), AI/ML (Bedrock), analytics (QuickSight), and infrastructure delivery (CDK, Terraform). Azure is a secondary environment you will work in with some regularity; Linux administration underpins everything. You will be comfortable across all three CI/CD Tools (GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, and Jenkins), able to design reusable pipeline patterns, migrate pipelines between tools, and enforce consistent delivery standards regardless of the source control or build platform. Terraform is the primary IaC tool; AWS CDK is used for application-infrastructure co-located patterns and is a key part of this role. At DevOps III you operate independently on complex problems, make architectural recommendations, mentor junior engineers, and actively raise the bar on delivery reliability and automation coverage. You will also participate in on-call rotation for pipeline and infrastructure events. A DAY IN THE LIFE CI/CD Pipeline Engineering — GitHub | Bitbucket | Jenkins Design, implement, and maintain end-to-end CI/CD pipelines across GitHub Actions (reusable workflows, composite actions, matrix builds, self-hosted runners), Bitbucket Pipelines (pipe steps, custom runners, deployment environments), and Jenkins (declarative pipelines, shared libraries, agent pools, and Blue Ocean). Build reusable pipeline templates and shared libraries that standardize delivery patterns across all three CI/CD platforms -- engineers should be able to ship reliably without knowing which tool runs underneath. Drive pipeline governance across all platforms: branch protection policies, PR-required checks, approval gates, environment promotion strategies, and parallel job optimization. Implement and enforce pipeline quality gates: automated test integration, SAST/SCA security scanning, container image scanning, Terraform plan validation, CDK diff review, and compliance policy checks. Own artifact management across ECR (container images), S3 (build artifacts), and package feeds: versioning strategies, promotion workflows, and retention policies across dev/staging/prod. Migrate and consolidate pipelines: when Bitbucket or Jenkins pipelines need to move to GitHub Actions (or vice versa), you design the migration path, execute it, and document the new standard. AWS Platform Engineering — Core Services (Primary) Architect and manage AWS compute services: EC2 (AMI management, launch templates, Auto Scaling Groups), ECS Fargate (task definitions, service discovery, capacity providers), EKS, and Lambda (function packaging, layers, event source mappings, concurrency management). Design and maintain AWS messaging and event-driven architectures: SQS (standard and FIFO queues, DLQs, visibility timeouts, batch processing integration), SNS, and EventBridge for decoupled pipeline triggers and async workload patterns. Manage AWS data services: RDS and Aurora (multi-AZ, read replicas, parameter groups, automated backups, IAM database authentication, Performance Insights) -- including operational runbooks for failover, patching, and connectivity. Own AWS networking design: VPC architecture, subnet strategy, security groups, NACLs, Transit Gateway, VPN/Direct Connect, Route 53, ALB/NLB, PrivateLink, and VPC endpoints for secure private connectivity. Manage multi-account AWS Organizations: SCPs, account vending via Control Tower or Account Factory for Terraform, guardrails, and landing zone governance across production, staging, and sandbox environments. Implement AWS security posture controls: Security Hub, GuardDuty, Config Rules, CloudTrail, Macie, IAM Access Analyzer, and Secrets Manager -- integrated with CI/CD pipeline policy enforcement. AWS CDK & Terraform — Infrastructure as Code Author and maintain AWS CDK applications (TypeScript or Python) for application-infrastructure co-located patterns: Lambda functions with their event sources, SQS queues, RDS instances, ECS task definitions, and supporting IAM roles -- all as versioned, testable code alongside application code. Own and evolve the Terraform/OpenTofu module library for AWS and Azure: design composable modules, enforce DRY principles, manage remote state (S3 + DynamoDB locking), and implement workspace strategies for multi-environment deployments. Implement GitOps workflows for all IaC: every resource change goes through PR, plan/diff validation (Terraform plan + CDK diff in pipeline), and pipeline-applied apply/deploy -- zero manual console changes in production. Integrate CDK and Terraform into the CI/CD pipeline ecosystem: GitHub Actions workflows for CDK deploy, Bitbucket Pipelines for Terraform apply, and Jenkins shared library steps for IaC validation. Manage CDK construct libraries: author reusable L3 constructs that encode Mitratech's opinionated defaults for Lambda, ECS, RDS, and SQS patterns -- reducing boilerplate for product engineers. AI/ML Operations — AWS Bedrock & Analytics (QuickSight) Operate and maintain AWS Bedrock integrations: model deployment automation, inference endpoint configuration, IAM permission boundaries for foundation model access, and Bedrock guardrails for responsible AI use within Mitratech products. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Bedrock-enabled applications: package Lambda functions that invoke Bedrock, manage prompt templates and model version configurations as versioned artifacts, and implement canary/blue-green deployment patterns for AI-augmented features. Manage QuickSight infrastructure: dataset refresh schedules, capacity management, VPC connectivity for RDS and Redshift data sources, IAM permissions, and embedding configuration for customer-facing analytics within Mitratech products. Automate QuickSight asset management: dashboard and dataset deployment via QuickSight APIs integrated into CI/CD pipelines -- no manual dashboard publishing in production. Support data pipeline reliability between RDS/Aurora, S3 data lake, SQS-driven ingestion, and QuickSight: monitor data freshness SLAs and integrate pipeline health signals into the team's observability stack. QUALIFICATIONS Required 5 to 7 years as a DevOps or Cloud/Infrastructure Engineer in production; 4+ years with AWS as the primary platform. Hands-on CI/CD expertise across GitHub Actions AND at least one of Bitbucket Pipelines or Jenkins -- must be able to design, build, and maintain pipelines on multiple platforms, not just one. AWS CDK proficiency (TypeScript or Python): authoring CDK stacks and reusable constructs for Lambda, ECS Fargate, SQS, RDS, and supporting IAM patterns. HotDocs is Mitratech’s flagship document automation platform, used by enterprise clients worldwide to streamline the assembly of complex legal documents and contracts. You'll set the technical direction for AI at HotDocs - designing and delivering new AI-powered enterprise capabilities and driving our adoption of AI across the software development lifecycle. About the Role As a Principal AI Engineer, you will: Set the AI Technical Direction: Own the architecture for AI capabilities across HotDocs - model management, LLM and agent orchestration, retrieval strategy, evaluation, cost and latency management - and translate it into a pragmatic delivery roadmap. Deliver Enterprise AI Features: Take new AI-powered features from prototype to production at enterprise scale, writing clean, maintainable code in .NET Core and React and holding the bar for performance, security, and readability. Drive AI Adoption in the SDLC: Lead how we use AI across engineering - coding assistants, agentic workflows, test generation, code review, and documentation - selecting tooling, defining safe and effective usage patterns, and measuring the impact on delivery. Build Trustworthy AI: Establish evaluation harnesses, guardrails, observability, and AI governance practices so that AI features are accurate, explainable, and safe for use in regulated, compliance-heavy environments. Bring Deep Technical Expertise: Apply strong .NET and React ecosystem knowledge to complex problems, modernize and refactor legacy code where it blocks AI integration, and improve system scalability and reliability. Lead and Mentor: Raise the AI capability of the wider engineering group through code reviews, design reviews, pairing, brown-bag sessions, and clear written guidance. Influence Across the Business: Partner with product management, architecture, security, and customer-facing teams to shape the AI roadmap, evaluate build-versus-buy decisions, and set realistic expectations for what AI can deliver. Enhance DevOps and AI Ops: Extend CI/CD pipelines to cover AI workloads - prompt and model versioning, automated evaluation gates, monitoring, and cost tracking - working closely with DevOps engineers. Focus on the User: Ensure AI features solve real customer problems and deliver a great experience through attention to detail, responsiveness, transparency, and accessibility. About You You are: A Technical Leader: You set direction without needing authority, build consensus across teams, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical peers. An AI Practitioner, not a Spectator: You have shipped AI features to real users, keep pace with a fast-moving field, and can tell genuine capability from hype. Evidence-Led: You care about maintainable code, testing, and measurable outcomes - you evaluate AI systems with data rather than intuition. Adaptable and Pragmatic: You balance long-term architectural goals with the practical needs of a sprint-driven environment, and you know when a simple solution beats a model. Security-, Privacy- and Performance-Minded : You build with scalability and resilience in mind, using secure-by-design principles, and you treat data privacy and responsible AI as first-order concerns. Required Skills and Experience 12 or more years of professional software development experience, including time in a principal, lead, or staff-level technical role. Strong skills in .NET Core (C#) and React (TypeScript) or similar SPA frameworks - this remains a hands-on engineering role. Demonstrable experience designing and shipping production AI solutions - LLM integration, prompt engineering, RAG, MCP, and agentic or tool-calling systems. Hands-on experience with cloud AI platforms and services (e.g. Azure OpenAI / AI Foundry, or equivalent) and with orchestration frameworks such as Semantic Kernel. Experience building and maintaining REST APIs . Proficiency with Entity Framework and Azure SQL (or SQL Server). Experience evaluating and improving AI system quality - test sets, benchmarking, human review loops, and handling non-deterministic behavior. Understanding of web applications and AI-specific security, including secure coding, prompt injection, and safe handling of sensitive customer data. Experience using Git and collaborating through modern workflows (e.g., pull requests, branching strategies). Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar). Comfortable working in agile teams using tools such as Jira and Confluence. Practical experience using AI tooling within the SDLC (e.g. coding assistants, agentic developer tools) and a view on how to adopt it well across a team. A track record of technical leadership - mentoring senior engineers, leading design reviews, and influencing roadmap and architecture decisions. Nice to Have Deeper AI specialism in areas such as SLMs and fine-tuning, CAG, vector databases, AI observability, multi-agent systems, or AI/ML pipelines. Experience with Microsoft Office Addins (office.js / VSTO) Familiarity of .NET Framework / WPF Experience with authentication standards such as OAuth and SSO . Exposure to distributed caching (e.g., Redis) Knowledge of Linux environments and containerization (Docker). Scripting in PowerShell . Familiarity with performance tuning and application diagnostics. Experience with infrastructure-as-code or automation tooling. Previous experience in enterprise SaaS or compliance-heavy domains (e.g., legaltech, fintech), particularly applying AI to document, contract, or natural language workloads. Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer specialising in Generative AI and Large Language Models, with a strong focus on agentic systems, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, and AI evaluations, to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in architecting and delivering production-grade AI solutions that meet complex business objectives effectively. This position requires a blend of expertise in modern AI technologies and software engineering, along with a passion for staying at the forefront of advancements. Essential Duties & Responsibilities : Design, build, and operate multi-agent workflows and tool-enabled agents, implementing orchestration logic, state management, safety guardrails, and fallback strategies for resilient production pipelines. Architect and maintain end-to-end RAG systems, covering document ingestion, chunking, embedding, vector retrieval, reranking, and answer synthesis with a focus on quality, attribution, and latency. Evaluate and integrate LLMs and GenAI services across cost, performance, and privacy dimensions, selecting the right mix of managed and in-house models. Develop, version, and optimise prompting strategies; implement automated prompt testing and regression tracking to maintain output quality and reliability. Define and own evaluation frameworks for generative outputs, including automated metrics, LLM-as-judge approaches, human evaluation protocols, hallucination detection, and drift monitoring. Apply classical NLP techniques where appropriate and maintain awareness of data distribution shifts that could impact model behaviour in production. Build and operate scalable, secure AI infrastructure on AWS (Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, OpenSearch), following well architected principles and infrastructure-as-code practices. Own the full deployment lifecycle: CI/CD for models and agents, testing strategies, observability, and rollback procedures. Ensure data quality through rigorous validation and augmentation, and proactively source datasets for training, fine-tuning, and evaluation. Requirements & Skills: Agent Orchestration: Production experience designing multi-agent systems with tool use, memory/state management, and fault-tolerant routing. Familiarity with LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or custom orchestrators. RAG & Retrieval: Hands-on experience building RAG pipelines end-to-end: chunking, embedding models, vector databases, retrieval tuning, and answer synthesis at production scale. Evaluations: Strong experience defining and running evaluation pipelines for generative AI — automated scoring, human evaluation design, hallucination mitigation, and drift monitoring. LLM-as-judge patterns are a plus. LLMs & GenAI: Demonstrated experience with foundation models and GenAI providers (AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta). Comfortable with fine-tuning, instruction tuning, and prompt engineering at scale. Traditional NLP: Solid grounding in classical NLP techniques (NER, text classification, intent detection, topic modelling) and good judgement on when to apply them alongside or instead of LLMs. AWS Bedrock: Hands-on experience with Amazon Bedrock: foundation model APIs, Bedrock Agents, Knowledge Bases, and Guardrails. Experience with Bedrock Model Evaluation is a plus. AWS Ecosystem: Proficiency with SageMaker, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, OpenSearch, IAM, CloudWatch, and VPC networking. MLOps & CI/CD: Familiarity with model registries, CI/CD for ML, feature stores, canary deployments, monitoring, and rollback. IaC: Experience with Terraform or AWS CDK for reproducible infrastructure provisioning. Python: Production-quality Python: packaging, testing (pytest), type hints, async programming, and clean ML pipeline abstractions. ML Frameworks: Familiarity with traditional ML frameworks and fine-tuning workflows. Experiment Tracking: Experience with Langfuse, Arize or Langsmith, or equivalent for tracking runs, metrics, and artefacts. Ability to translate ambiguous business goals into concrete technical solutions and communicate tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
