About the role Muon Space is seeking a creative and technically rigorous Senior Applied Scientist, Geospatial to join our Mission Innovation team. In this high-impact, "zero-to-one" role, you will bridge the gap between scientific first principles and market-ready data products. You will not just be running existing pipelines; you will be the scientific engine and creative force exploring new applications of electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) geospatial imagery data, developing prototype products, and engaging directly with customers to discover the missions of tomorrow. Operating at the earliest stages of the business lifecycle, you will hypothesize and validate how Muon’s unique EO/IR geospatial imagery datasets can solve critical challenges for defense, intelligence, and commercial end-users. This position can be performed remotely from an approved location. Responsibilities Conduct first-principles scientific and technical analysis to formulate hypotheses for remote sensing electro-optical and infrared imagery data applications and novel use cases. Perform feasibility studies, literature reviews, and trade studies to support development of early-stage mission and data concepts. Analyze and manipulate pixel-level geospatial and spectral datasets to extract unique insights and validate new mission concepts. Develop and generate prototype electro-optical and infrared imagery products and sample intelligence products that demonstrate unique capabilities of Muon’s systems. Support customer discovery and engagement efforts, translating operational pain points and needs into technical requirements and derived data solutions. Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, business development, and engineering teams to identify and develop new markets, products, and technologies. Support creation of technical proposals and white papers that articulate the differentiation and mission utility of Muon’s offerings. Qualifications B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Physics, Remote Sensing, Earth Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical/scientific field. 5+ years of experience in geospatial research, analysis, and imagery data product development. Strong foundation in scientific first principles, including geospatial imagery analysis, spectral science, optical systems, and physics-based remote sensing. Background in infrared, multispectral, hyperspectral, or similar remote sensing phenomenologies Demonstrated proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Julia) for advanced image processing and geospatial analysis. Proven experience working directly with geospatial tools and manipulating raw, pixel-level data. Strategic and creative mindset with the ability to reason through novel, ambiguous problems without established "cookbooks". Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences. Strong collaborative skills for working across disciplines like data engineering, satellite operations, and mission architecture. Active security clearance or a willingness to obtain one for national security mission support. About the role Muon Space is hiring a Product Manager to own how much data our missions get to the ground, and how we prove it. Reporting to a Director of Product Management, you will own bits-to-ground communications across RF and optical links, simulation, and software test. This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our San Jose, CA office four days per week. Responsibilities Comms, Simulation and Test Own the product roadmap for bits-to-ground communications across RF and optical (OCT) links. Own the product roadmap for Muon Sim, the digital twin behind mission design and mission operations, including the throughput analysis that sets what a constellation can deliver. Grow simulation into a tool for software iteration, so flight and ground software can be exercised against the twin before it reaches a spacecraft. Own the product roadmap for software test infrastructure, automation, and hardware-in-the-loop environments. Define and prioritize features that improve product quality, schedule adherence, or customer value. Author clear Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), drive alignment, and follow through reliably. Partner with the Director of Product Management to develop the strategy for the product areas including build/buy decisions. Conduct customer interviews, gather feedback on product–market fit, and translate insights into roadmap decisions. Cross-functional Coordination Partner closely with engineering teams across ground software, simulation, test, and mission systems to define features and roadmap. Partner with other software product managers on roadmaps where capabilities intersect. Coordinate with the Director of PM — Federal on defense-aligned product needs and inputs to roadmap. Collaborate with the VP of Product and the broader PM team on strategic roadmap decisions and prioritization trade-offs. Required Qualifications 3–5 years of Product Management experience, with demonstrated success owning software products in technically complex environments. Experience in communications systems, simulation, test infrastructure, or adjacent deep-tech software domains. Experience working cross-functionally with multiple engineering teams at once, rather than a single team. Demonstrated success in uncertain environments with incomplete requirements and shifting schedules. Proven track record delivering major features or programs spanning multiple months of effort. History of independent execution and implementation across multiple concurrent workstreams. Strong fluency working with engineering peers and leadership; able to influence cross-organizational technical investment without direct authority. Demonstrated ability to translate customer mission needs into detailed product requirements and acceptance criteria across software systems. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred. Nice-to-have Skills Active U.S. Government security clearance. Responsibilities Platform, Build & Delivery Maintain and evolve the technical build flows, test environments, and delivery and integration pipelines for both FPGA and GPU code, ensuring reproducible, reliable, and fast turnaround from commit to lab-ready artifact. Own the toolchain environments (synthesis, simulation, cross-compilation, containerized builds) and keep them up-to-date, documented, and consistent across engineers. Manage the complexity of delivering into a growing variety of future missions, actively working to keep mission-to-mission variations as small as possible, and promoting shared components.
