ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a Tech Lead to be the technical backbone of our Cards engineering team in India. You will set the technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and raise the engineering bar — while staying hands-on with code and guiding engineers through complex problem-solving. WHAT YOU'LL DO Own and drive the technical vision, architecture, and design for the Cards domain Be a hands-on coding leader — write, review, and set the quality bar for production code Lead technical design discussions, RFC processes, and cross-team architectural decisions Mentor and upskill engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance Partner with Product and Engineering Manager to translate business goals into technical roadmaps Identify and resolve technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and scalability challenges Champion engineering best practices: testing, observability, CI/CD, and Agile delivery Collaborate with DevOps, Security, and peer tech leads on platform-wide standards MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent 10+ years of backend development experience in Node.js with strong C# exposure 3+ years of advanced SQL (MSSQL / Oracle / MySQL / PostgreSQL) Proven track record as a technical leader driving complex, distributed systems Deep experience building SaaS platforms on AWS Containers & Kubernetes (K8s/EKS) experience Message broker expertise: RabbitMQ / SQS / Kafka (Kafka preferred) Microservices architecture and strong OOP / design patterns knowledge Experience in payment card systems, card processing, or financial platforms NICE TO HAVE Full-stack exposure: Next Redis or equivalent caching layer ORM experience (Entity Framework or similar) Domain Driven Design (DDD) practice PCI-DSS compliance or card network (Visa/Mastercard) integration experience TECH STACK SNAPSHOT Backend Node.js · C# Database MSSQL / PostgreSQL Cloud AWS / EKS Messaging Kafka / SQS Infra Docker · K8s Caching Redis TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES Deep systems thinking — design for scale, resilience, and maintainability Strong written and verbal communication of complex technical concepts Influential without authority — lead through expertise and trust Bias for action: ship iteratively, measure, and improve Security-conscious engineering mindset WHY PAYONEER High-impact, global fintech platform processing billions in transactions Autonomous teams with deep ownership over critical payment infrastructure Clear growth path: Tech Lead → Principal Engineer Competitive compensation + benefits in India The Payoneer Ways of Working Act as our customer’s partner on the inside Learning what they need and creating what will help them go further. Location: Gurugram - India (3 days WFO) Full-time What You’ll Be Spending Your Time On: Take a leadership role in achieving team goals, contributing to the overall design, architecture, development, quality, and production deployment of the team's systems Design and implement robust, scalable, and maintainable backend solutions for complex scenarios, ensuring high-quality results that may be consumed by other teams. Collaborate effectively within your team and with cross-functional partners, such as Product, Design/UX, DevOps, and other R&D teams, representing your team as needed. Maintain and improve the team's engineering practices, suggesting and implementing technology, patterns, or process enhancements. Proactively identify areas of improvement in team systems, processes, and scalability. Lead by example in code quality, contributing significantly to code reviews and acting as a focal point for engineering excellence questions. Help monitor production systems, investigate potential issues, and lead efforts to resolve critical production challenges while maintaining a customer-centric approach. Have You Done This Kind of Stuff: 6+ years in backend software engineering roles, with demonstrated ability to navigate technical trade-offs and ambiguity effectively. Extensive experience in C# and .Net ecosystem is a mandatory requirement. Hands-on experience in SQL Server and database management Experience with message queues or streaming platforms (e.g., RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka). Experience in writing unit test and strong knowledge of design principles, data structures and algorithms. Experience with microservices architecture. Experience in designing new functionality for existing complex components while maintaining scalability and performance. Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders. BSc/BE/B.Tech in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent degree Not a Must, but a Great Advantage: Practical experience with Agile development methodologies. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud). Practical knowledge of non-relational databases (eg.
