We’ve helped ambitious brands grow faster, smarter, and globally. The Role Our Data Engineering & AI team is growing! We’re looking for a Data Architect to join our team in London. In this role you will set the design principles for our data platform and make sure everything we build lives up to them. You’ll own the architecture of QiCore, our new data warehouse, bring acquired businesses into it cleanly and lay the foundations our AI plans depend on. Key Responsibilities Own the target architecture for QiCore and act as design authority for every build that lands in it Establish clear approaches to customer identity, PII, consent, data classification, retention and access controls, working with relevant security, privacy and governance stakeholders. Lead the migration of Rewards into our warehouse and single customer view, then turn it into a repeatable pattern for future acquisitions Define the modelling, governance and data quality standards our engineers build to, and review work against them before it ships Stay hands-on: prototype pipelines, unblock engineers on daily design questions and lead a small team of data engineers Translate business needs into data design with Tech, Analytics and commercial teams, so the platform is ready for our AI ambitions About You Proven enterprise or data architecture experience, with a warehouse or lakehouse you designed running in production Hands-on data engineering: you still write SQL and Python, and can build and debug pipelines yourself Strong understanding of PII, data privacy, access control and governance, with experience designing solutions for both identifiable and anonymous/pseudonymous customer data Deep knowledge of big data platforms, ETL and ELT patterns, and data governance frameworks Experience consolidating acquired businesses or legacy platforms into a single data model High standards for quality, and the clarity to explain design trade-offs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders You thrive when working as part of a team Comfortable in a fast-paced environment Have excellent written and verbal English skills Last but not least, you’ll have no ego! In this role you will build and run the pipelines behind QiCore, our new data warehouse. You’ll bring acquired businesses like Rewards into one platform and make sure the data the business runs on is reliable, governed and built to last. Key Responsibilities Build, test and maintain batch and streaming pipelines into QiCore to agreed engineering standards Migrate Rewards data into our warehouse and single customer view, keeping reporting running throughout Model data for analytics and reporting, working to the architecture and governance principles the team sets Monitor pipeline health and data quality, fixing issues at the root rather than patching symptoms Support future acquisitions and platform migrations, turning each one into a faster, repeatable process About You Several years of hands-on data engineering, writing production SQL and Python Experience building ETL or ELT pipelines on a modern cloud warehouse or big data platform Working knowledge of data governance, testing and data quality practices Comfortable with orchestration and version control, and with reviewing and being reviewed High standards for quality, with a can-do attitude when priorities shift You thrive when working as part of a team Comfortable in a fast-paced environment Have excellent written and verbal English skills Last but not least, you’ll have no ego! We work in two product teams, iGaming and Rewards, supported by platform and infrastructure engineers. We are partway through building a new version of our platform, which makes this the right moment to put quality engineering at the heart of how we deliver. You will lead quality engineering across both product teams. You will guide how we test, build the frameworks and pipelines that make testing fast, and help every engineer take ownership of the quality of their own work. This is a hands-on technical role. Early on you will write a lot of the framework code yourself. Over time your influence will come through the tooling you build and the engineers you coach. What you'll do Define our test strategy: what we test at unit, integration, contract and end-to-end level, so every team knows where a given test belongs and why. Build and own our automation framework in Playwright and TypeScript, covering web front ends and APIs across both product teams. Make CI feedback fast and trustworthy. Bring our existing end-to-end suite to a healthy state and keep it there as the new platform grows. Coach developers to write and own tests for their own code, through pairing, code review and clear examples. Set up test data and environments that let teams test realistically and safely. Introduce performance and load testing for our core applications. Work with product managers so acceptance criteria are testable before build starts, and so testing time is part of every estimate. Track a small set of quality measures, such as escaped defects, change failure rate, suite run time and flake rate, and use them to decide where to invest next. About you Strong coding skills in TypeScript or JavaScript, with test code written to the same standard as production code. Deep experience with a modern browser automation framework. Playwright is ideal; Cypress experience transfers well (we’re in the process of migrating from Cypress to Playwright). A track record of designing test strategy across the full testing pyramid for web products and APIs, including judging where automation earns its keep. Experience running automated tests in CI (GitHub Actions ideally) with Docker, and fixing pipelines that are slow or unreliable. Evidence of raising quality through other people, whether by coaching developers, setting standards or leading a quality practice. Nice to have Contract testing in a service-based architecture, for example with Pact. Performance and load testing with k6, Artillery or similar. Using AI coding assistants to speed up writing and maintaining tests, with the judgement to review what they produce. Using observability data and production signals to decide what to test. Visual regression or accessibility testing. Experience in a regulated industry such as iGaming, fintech or health. How you work You explain quality trade-offs to product managers and business stakeholders in plain terms. You will hold a release back when the evidence says it is not ready, and then help the team find a safe way to ship. You write things down: strategies, decisions and guides other engineers can pick up and follow. You are comfortable shaping a practice from an early stage, where you will need to decide what matters most first. You'll spend most of your time designing and building, and you'll manage one infrastructure engineer from day one. As the business grows we expect the platform team to grow with it, and we'd like you to lead that. You'll report to the Director of Engineering. What you'll work on Completing the rollout of the next version of our platform while the current one keeps serving live traffic. Moving acquired sites, which currently deploy in their own ways, onto a common build and release path. Strengthening edge protection and resilience so the platform absorbs traffic spikes and hostile traffic. Giving every team clear visibility of what's deployed, when, and how often. Defining the route from prototype to production, including the checks a service needs before it goes live. What you'll be responsible for Platform and infrastructure Design, build and run scalable, secure infrastructure on GCP, defined in Terraform. Own networking and IAM design, including VPCs, ingress through Traefik, and encryption of data at rest and in transit. Make and record architecture decisions for the platform, and keep them visible to the wider team. Work with the software engineering team to ensure we’re delivering the right infrastructure at the right time. Work with our data engineers on the infrastructure behind BigQuery and our data pipelines. Delivery and developer experience Own our CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and make deployments quick and repeatable. Build self-service tooling so product engineers can ship and run their own services with confidence. Reliability and security Set up monitoring, logging and alerting using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Prometheus and Grafana. Lead root cause analysis after incidents and see the fixes through. Build security into the delivery process early, and track and address vulnerabilities across the estate. Keep the platform in line with our regulatory obligations and internal policies. Leadership Line manage and develop our infrastructure engineer, with regular one-to-ones and a clear growth plan. Set platform standards and help the iGaming and Rewards tech leads adopt them. Shape the platform roadmap with the Director of Engineering and plan how the team grows. Hire into the platform team as it expands. About you Significant experience as a platform, cloud or infrastructure engineer, including time as the senior or lead engineer on a team. Deep, hands-on experience with GCP, including GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage and BigQuery. Strong Terraform skills and experience running infrastructure as code in production. Experience building and running CI/CD pipelines, ideally in GitHub Actions. Solid Docker and Kubernetes experience, including cluster networking and ingress. Scripting and programming ability in Python, Go or Bash. Experience with observability tooling and with leading incident response. Experience mentoring engineers, and a real interest in line management. Clear written and spoken English, and comfort explaining technical trade-offs to people outside engineering. Nice to have TypeScript or JavaScript experience. ArgoCD or other GitOps tooling. Experience in a regulated industry such as iGaming, fintech or health. Experience consolidating infrastructure after an acquisition or major migration. Experience building or growing a platform team.
