The role: As a Data Engineer, you will play an important role in the Data infrastructure team, which is responsible for building and maintaining a scalable, robust, self-service analytics platform. What you'll do: Maintaining and improving the ingestion pipeline to reliably deliver billions of events daily in a defined SLA Provide support for all teams in building and optimizing their complex pipelines Work closely with other teams to identify pain points and problems around the platform Develop new tools and frameworks to improve the data platform Work in close collaboration with data scientists and data analysts to help support their work in production Work with vast projects such as building an ML platform and streaming use cases Set up best practices and processes around software and data development What you bring in: 3+ years of experience in data engineering Experience working with an orchestration tool (ex, Airflow) Experience working with a large data set Experience building complex ETL pipelines Experience working with cloud providers such as GCP, AWS, or Azure Strong programming skills in Spark with Scala and Python Experience working with CI/CD tools like Jenkins and Git Strong understanding of Software Engineering practices and principles Excellent problem-solving and communication skills Self-motivated and have a proven ability to take the initiative to own the problems that come up and solve them It would be great if you also have: Working with messaging systems like Kafka Knowledge of Kubernetes Hands-on experience with any streaming platform Experience managing a data warehouse in BigQuery or Redshift What we offer: We support growth through learning resources, leadership programs, mentoring, and real hands-on work. As an Engineering Manager, Data, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of ML engineers, data scientists, and data engineers driving some of Truecaller's most strategic initiatives. Your team will be responsible for advancing the trust graph, compounding intelligence, communication experiences, fraud detection, federated learning, calling, search, and the AI Assistant, technologies that sit at the core of Truecaller's strategy. This role combines deep technical leadership with people management: you will define the technical direction across an applied ML stack, foster the growth and well-being of a highly specialized team, and transform a research-driven roadmap into reliable, production-ready systems. What you'll do: Lead, grow, and retain a high-performing team of ML engineers, data scientists, and data engineers, investing deliberately in each person's development and career path. Set technical direction for the core intelligence behind Truecaller’s calling and search intelligence, along with the real-time serving and data platforms that support them. Own team planning, prioritization, and delivery, balancing near-term product commitments against long-term platform health. Partner closely with product, data science, and other engineering teams to translate business goals into a clear technical roadmap. Push for reuse: config-driven, composable platforms and closed feedback loops rather than one-off models and pipelines. Drive rigor in experimentation and evaluation, from offline metrics to online A/B tests, so model changes ship on measured impact. Keep production systems reliable at scale, owning the latency, quality, and cost of models serving hundreds of millions of users. Run regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations, and recruit and onboard new talent as the team grows. Stay close enough to the technical detail to make informed calls, unblock your team, and earn credibility with senior ML, Data Scientists and engineers. What you bring in: Proven experience leading or managing engineering or ML teams, ideally in recommendations, ranking, ads, search, or a similarly ML-heavy domain. A solid grasp of applied ML in production - retrieval and ranking, experimentation, model serving, and the data that feeds them - enough to engage credibly on technical trade-offs. You do not need to be the strongest modeler in the room; you need to lead the people who are. Working knowledge of backend and data engineering practices - architecture, real-time systems, pipelines, and warehousing - enough to reason about the full stack your team owns. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to align specialists with different skill sets toward shared goals. A track record of delivering complex technical projects on time and at scale. Comfort operating in ambiguity and making pragmatic trade-offs between speed and quality. A collaborative mindset and the ability to work closely with cross-functional stakeholders. It would be great if you also have: A hands-on background in ML engineering, data science, or backend development before moving into management.
