However, during the interview process, we want to understand your individual skills and experiences. Therefore, we have guidelines on how AI can be appropriately used during your application and interviews which can be found here . Role Overview ID.me is seeking a Software Engineer III to join the Developer Portal team, where we're building the self-service platform that enables organizations to rapidly integrate id.me Identity proofing is fundamentally complex. Integrating an identity proofing flow requires many steps while meeting standards-body assurance requirements. The Developer Portal is the product that brings those pieces together for the external developer. Today, much of that onboarding is still performed manually by in-house Solutions Consultants who have many other responsibilities. Our mission is to enable customers and their developers to register their application, configure their identity needs, test in a production-like sandbox, and launch to production all through a modern self-service experience. This is a backend-leaning full-stack role . You will spend most of your time designing and building the services, APIs, and data models behind the portal — application registration, authorization, and the developer-facing APIs our customers integrate against. You'll also ship the user-facing surfaces of those services power, working in our Next.js and React frontend to take features all the way to the customer rather than handing them off at the API boundary. You'll own features end-to-end: from API contract through database schema, deployment, and production operation. You'll take defined problems, coordinate across teams to land them safely, and grow into technical ownership of the systems you build. Our backend services are primarily Java (Spring Boot) alongside legacy Ruby services powering identity, organizations, applications, and authorization. The frontend is a micro-frontend platform built with Next.js , React , and TypeScript . Previous Ruby experience is welcome but not required — we value engineers who are comfortable learning whatever technology the problem requires. This position is based in our Mountain View, CA office five days per week. Key Responsibilities Build & Ship Self-Service Developer Features Design and implement Developer Portal capabilities end-to-end — from API contract design through database schema, frontend integration, and deployment. Independently drive small-to-medium features, coordinating with adjacent teams where your work crosses service boundaries. Own API Contracts & Data Models Own the data models and REST API contracts for the capabilities you build, making deliberate decisions about backwards compatibility and versioning. Our customers integrate directly against these contracts, so changes must be additive and safe by default. Authentication, Authorization & Identity Build secure Developer Portal capabilities spanning OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, enterprise SSO, multi-tenant authorization, relationship-based access control, session management, credential management, and identity-aware application provisioning. Partner with our Identity, Organizations, Authorization, and Platform Engineering teams to evolve these capabilities without disrupting existing integrations. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Product, Design, Architecture, and platform teams to clarify requirements, surface risks early, and keep the developer experience coherent as the platform grows. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 4+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production backend services. [Less for PhD, Master's] Strong experience building backend services and REST APIs using a modern web framework such as Java (Spring Boot), Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or similar. Deep experience with relational databases, including authoring complex SQL and performing safe schema migrations against production systems. Experience designing REST API contracts, including versioning and backwards compatibility, and documenting them with OpenAPI or a similar specification. Working proficiency with TypeScript and React — comfortable shipping customer-facing features through a modern frontend without requiring a frontend specialist to finish the work. Working familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or related identity standards. Demonstrated experience independently driving small-to-medium technical initiatives from definition through production, including cross-team coordination. Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and a commitment to an AI-first engineering culture that leverages these tools to improve software quality, testing, and engineering velocity. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience partnering across Product, Design, and Engineering. Preferred Qualifications Has built developer experience as an explicit goal for example SDKs, API reference docs, quickstarts, sandbox or test environments, error messages and debugging surfaces, or self-serve onboarding flows and can speak to how it changed time-to-first-successful-integration for real external developers. Experience building developer-facing platforms such as developer portals, API platforms, authentication platforms, cloud platforms, payments platforms, or other self-service developer experiences. Experience with modern Java (21+) and Spring Boot in production codebases. Experience with Ruby on Rails. Experience with PostgreSQL specifically, including graph-like or highly relational data models. Experience with Next.js, or with micro-frontend architectures such as Webpack Module Federation. Experience with enterprise identity standards including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, or SCIM. Experience with relationship-based authorization systems such as SpiceDB, OpenFGA, or Zanzibar-inspired architectures. Experience with policy engines such as OPA or Cedar. Experience performing feature-flag-driven migrations in customer-facing production systems. Experience with OpenAPI tooling, docs-as-code, or SDK generation. Familiarity with identity verification, fraud prevention, KYC/AML, or regulated identity systems. Working knowledge of NIST 800-63 IAL/AAL guidelines. Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and cloud-native application development. Experience with observability platforms such as OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, Prometheus, and Sentry. Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Playwright, Jest, or Cypress. Startup or high-growth company background. The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role. However, during the interview process, we want to understand your individual skills and experiences. Therefore, we have guidelines on how AI can be appropriately used during your application and interviews which can be found here . Role Overview ID.me is seeking a Software Engineer III to join the Trust Service team, where we build and operate the core infrastructure that decides how much trust to extend to every identity claim made by over 152 million members. The Trust Service owns the Trust Graph, a structured record of identity inspections that captures what was verified and how reliably it was verified. Every access decision at 20 federal agencies, 44 state governments, 66 healthcare organizations, and hundreds of consumer brands depends on the identity and trust data our service produces. As a Software Engineer III, you will work on a high-throughput, correctness-critical Java backend service at the heart of ID.me's identity platform. The work is backend-intensive and data-model-deep: you will design and evolve REST APIs, write precise database queries, and ship features that are used at production scale. You will be a key technical voice on how the trust data model evolves and how new inspection types, identity providers, and scoring rules land safely in production. Key Responsibilities Build & Ship Trust Graph Features : Design, implement, and evolve the Trust Service API end-to-end, from API contract design through database query authoring and production deployment. Independently drive small-to-medium features with minimal oversight, coordinating closely with the Identity, Platform, and consumer-facing product teams that depend on the trust chain. Data Model & API Contract Ownership : Own the trust inspection data model and the REST API contract that downstream consumers and SDKs bind to. Make deliberate decisions about backwards compatibility, versioning, and the clean separation between public API shape and internal implementation details. Correctness, Reliability & Performance : Ensure that trust reads and writes are correct under concurrent load. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in database query plans. Own reliability improvements: observability, structured logging, alerting, and on-call response for a service that downstream teams depend on continuously. Database & Integration Engineering : Write and review complex SQL queries against ID.me's identity graph schema. Collaborate with the platform team when underlying data contracts change, and ensure the trust service stays correctly decoupled from its data dependencies. Understand and navigate PostgreSQL semantics, schema migration risks, and safe deployment patterns. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with the Product engineering, Architects and Platform teams, the trust chain feeds risk decisions, audit queries, and downstream access grants. Bring a clear-eyed technical perspective to cross-team planning: surface contract risks early, write precise specs for new inspection types, and hold the line on data-model correctness when product velocity would otherwise cut corners. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). 4+ years of professional software development experience with a strong emphasis on backend service engineering, preferably in Java or another JVM language. Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and commitment to an AI-first engineering culture that leverages these tools to maximize code quality, test coverage, and engineering velocity. Deep comfort with relational databases, writing complex SQL queries, reasoning about query plans, and working within a production database schema. Experience designing and versioning REST APIs backed by OpenAPI specifications. Preferred Qualifications Experience with modern Java (21+) and its type-safety features — records, sealed interfaces, pattern matching — applied to real production codebases. Familiarity with graph or highly relational data models: understanding entity relationships, traversal patterns, and the tradeoffs of different read/write shapes. Comfort reasoning about identity and trust decisions: what it means for a credential to be verified, how different verification methods vary in reliability, and how expiration or decay affects downstream trust. Experience with identity standards such as NIST 800-63-3, OAuth2, or OpenID Connect. Strong track record of shipping well-tested, production-quality backend features with careful attention to failure modes, rollback safety, and backwards-compatible schema changes. Startup or high-growth company experience with a strong bias toward ownership and execution. You'll set technical direction for the areas you own, mentor and unblock teammates, and take accountability for both the engineering health and business outcomes of the systems in your sphere. Your work will sit at the intersection of identity, security, and consumer experience, directly shaping how millions of people prove and access who they are online. This position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week. Key Responsibilities Own & Ship Authentication Features: Build, maintain, and improve the ID.me Wallet authentication experience — sign-in, registration, MFA, account recovery, password reset, and MyWallet. Take loosely defined problems, clarify requirements with stakeholders, create a plan, and independently drive medium-to-large features end-to-end from definition through deployment and post-launch evaluation — delivering well-tested, production-ready results with minimal oversight, and setting technical direction for the areas you own. Security, Risk & Production Reliability: Own and evolve the team's real-time risk engine and its integration across authentication flows — detecting and mitigating credential attacks, account takeover, and abuse while preserving a low-friction experience for legitimate members. Apply security best practices as a first-class concern in every feature you ship. Take accountability for the production health of these systems — participating in the on-call rotation, leading incident response and post-mortems, and driving improvements to reliability and observability across the team's services. Code Quality & Technical Leadership: Write high-quality, maintainable code with strong test coverage, following team best practices around code reviews, CI/CD, and documentation. Raise the bar for engineering excellence across the team, and mentor and unblock other engineers through pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing — creating team redundancy on the systems you own. Improve the health of the codebase by identifying and addressing technical debt and strengthening shared components. Third-Party & Internal Integrations: Integrate with MFA providers, email/SMS delivery services, internal identity services, and downstream relying parties. Proactively raise issues or opportunities discovered during integration work. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence: Act as a connector between your team and others — partnering with Product, Design, Security, Identity, and adjacent engineering teams to deliver cohesive auth experiences, anticipating cross-system dependencies, resolving ambiguity, and driving alignment on technical approaches. Participate actively in planning, retrospectives, and cross-team discussions — bringing your perspective to help shape the team's roadmap. Proficiency in a modern server-side web framework (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Django, Laravel), with hands-on experience building and operating production web applications at scale, including ownership of their reliability and on-call support. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to take loosely defined problems and independently drive medium-to-large features from definition to production with minimal oversight, making sound technical tradeoffs along the way. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across Product, Design, and Engineering — and of mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar of a team. Experience with authentication and identity standards such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, or FIDO2/WebAuthn. Experience building or contributing to fraud detection, real-time risk engines, or abuse mitigation systems. Familiarity with security best practices for credential handling — password storage, session management, token issuance, and rate limiting. Experience with React or other modern frontend frameworks for building user experiences. Comfort working in a fast-moving product environment with iterative releases and A/B testing. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and performance profiling tools. Startup or high-growth company experience with a strong bias toward execution and ownership. Therefore, we have guidelines on how AI can be appropriately used during your application and interviews which can be found here . Role Overview ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack to join the Commerce & Loyalty team, which owns the ID.me Shop experience — cashback, affiliate offers, merchant discounts, and loyalty programs — along with the marketing and campaign surfaces that drive member engagement and commerce revenue. This position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week. This role is full stack: you will spend significant time on the React/Next.js web experience across Shop and SuperApp, while also building and extending the backend services and APIs that power these features. You will be the technical anchor for the team's frontend surfaces, driving architecture decisions, raising the engineering bar, and partnering closely with Design and Product to translate commerce, personalization, and loyalty concepts into working member experiences. This is a product-focused role: your primary charter is deepening and scaling the Shop product experience itself, rather than owning shared platform or design-system infrastructure. Where patterns built for Shop are broadly useful, you may contribute reusable components back to ID.me's shared UI Foundations on an as-needed basis. Key Responsibilities Build and Maintain Shop Web Experiences: Own and evolve the Shop front-end surfaces using React, Next.js, and TypeScript, including personalized offer discovery, cashback/loyalty flows, and merchant/store pages. Build and Extend Backend Services: Build and extend backend REST endpoints and services to support new or modified frontend features, taking full ownership from UI through backend rather than handing work to another team. Integrate with Platform APIs: Integrate with Shopping Graph and Developer Portal APIs for merchant data, offer eligibility, and personalization signals rather than hardcoding business logic client-side. Support Infrastructure Modernization: Participate in ongoing platform work such as the GKE migration for Shop and adoption of shared UI patterns across the Shop codebase. Contribute to UI Foundations as Needed: When a component or pattern built for Shop has broader applicability, contribute it back to ID.me's shared design system so other product teams can adopt it — without this becoming a primary focus of the role. Partner Closely with Design and Product: Work hand-in-hand with Design and Product to turn discovery, personalization, loyalty, and campaign/marketing concepts into feasible, member-centered web UI. At ID.me, we embrace the thoughtful use of AI tools in our daily work and there are even occasions where we leverage AI in our hiring process. However, during the interview process, we want to understand your individual skills and experiences. Therefore, we have guidelines on how AI can be appropriately used during your application and interviews which can be found here . Developer Marketing Manager Location: Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA (Full-time, in-office) Role Overview We're hiring a Developer Marketing Manager to own how developers and technical evaluators discover, learn, and integrate with ID.me's identity platform. You'll be the marketing owner of developers.id.me and docs.id.me — the technical hubs that turn ID.me from a service customers wait on into a platform they configure themselves. You'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and DevRel to ship the content that turns evaluators into integrators. ID.me is shifting from a service model (we build your verification workflow) to a platform model (you configure your own). The Developer Portal is the surface area where that shift becomes real for customers, and we need a developer marketer who can carry that story end to end. Responsibilities Developer Portal & Technical Content Own marketing for developers.id.me and the technical documentation experience at docs.id.me — IA, content roadmap, page builds, and ongoing maintenance in partnership with Product and Engineering. Write and ship technical content: quickstarts, integration guides, API reference improvements, sample apps, and code snippets for the modular API suite (Face API, Age Verification, White-Label, Green-Label). Keep documentation, code samples, and version notes in lockstep with product releases — including new self-service capabilities like workflow policies, app-level reporting, and native API configuration. Developer Enablement & How-To Materials Build hands-on enablement: tutorials, video walkthroughs, sandbox demos, and reference architectures for common identity workflows (OIDC, OAuth, SAML, SCIM, Enterprise SSO). Translate engineering specs and PRDs into clear, developer-friendly content that respects developers' time and intelligence — turning concepts like Applications, Policies, and the workflow engine into plain-language how-tos. Partner with Solutions Engineering and Support to identify the integration questions developers actually hit — then ship content that answers them before a ticket gets filed. Developer Engagement & Growth Drive qualified developer traffic to developers.id.me through community engagement, partnerships, and developer-facing programs. Build campaigns and programs targeting technical evaluators — product managers, eCommerce leads, engineering managers, and compliance officers — in partnership with Field Marketing and Demand Gen. Track funnel metrics from portal visit → sandbox signup → first API call → policy activation → production integration, and report on what's working. Platform Launch & Cross-Functional Partnership Co-own technical launches with Product Marketing and PM — release notes, migration guides, deprecations, and the developer-facing pieces of every major launch (Developer Portal, Organizations Platform, modular APIs). Carry the platform narrative — modularity, self-service, configurable workflows — through every developer-facing surface. Serve as the marketing voice in DevRel and developer experience conversations; bring developer feedback back into Product and Engineering. Qualifications 10+ years in developer marketing, technical product marketing, or developer relations at a company shipping API or platform products. Technical background — CS or engineering degree, prior engineering or DevRel experience, or a clear portfolio of technical content you've shipped (docs, tutorials, sample apps, dev portals). Strong technical writing skills. You can read a PRD, talk to an engineer, and ship a quickstart developers actually finish. Hands-on familiarity with at least one modern stack (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go, or similar) and comfort working in code samples and Git. Experience owning or significantly contributing to a developer portal, docs site, or technical content program. Comfort with developer-funnel metrics: portal traffic, sandbox activation, time-to-first-API-call, integration completion. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Bonus: previous experience working within a developer ecosystem or developer community. Bonus: working knowledge of IAM and identity protocols (OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SAML, SCIM, Enterprise SSO with Entra/Okta), or prior experience marketing identity, auth, CIAM, or security platforms. Why This Role ID.me's identity platform powers verification for 152M+ members, 22 federal agencies, and a growing roster of healthcare, State and Education, and commercial brands. The Developer Portal opens that network up to customers as a self-service product, and the developer marketing function is being built from the ground up to support it. You'll have meaningful ownership, runway to grow the function, and a direct line to the VP of Enterprise Marketing along with Product and Engineering leadership. ID.me is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. ID.me participates in E-Verify. The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.
