Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators. At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there. A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone. The Consumer Apps Desktop team owns the Windows and macOS foundation behind every Roblox session on a PC or Mac: the window, the launch path, and the shell that holds everything together. You will own that foundation with us. We are dedicated to delivering superior performance, reliability, and user experience on Windows and Macs. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Desktop team, you'll be a driving technical force; you will lead complex client work end-to-end and raise the quality bar across our codebase. You will lead projects at that scale end-to-end, set the technical standard in a codebase millions of people depend on daily, and partner with product, design, and platform teams to ship work that is polished and fast at scale. You Will: Shape & improve the Windows and macOS experience that millions of players see every day. Own major Windows and MacOS initiatives end-to-end from ambiguous idea to shipped, measured, and iterated on. Rebuild the parts of the app every player touches: how it launches, how it renders, how it lives in the OS. Set the technical standard through code review, mentorship, and the code you write yourself. Make platform bets that pay off for engineering teams beyond Desktop. Translate ambiguous product ideas into well-scoped, high-quality engineering plans in close partnership with product, design, and data science. Work with our Microsoft and Apple counterparts to ensure feature ubiquity and platform-specific feature excellence. You Have: 5+ years shipping client software, with deep C++ expertise, including the ability to work effectively inside a large, established codebase. Experience with Lua/React is a plus. Released significant Windows or macOS applications. You know the platforms and their APIs throughout. Debugging and profiling skills that hold up under pressure: tracing, root-causing crashes, and diagnosing performance problems across the full client stack and an enormous range of consumer hardware. Fluency with concurrency and memory. Threading models and memory footprint are a must have to excel here. A reflex for data. Metrics, logging, and experiments are how you find out whether a feature works, not how you justify it afterward. The ability to take an ambiguous problem, break it down, and drive it to done. You communicate clearly, build trust across functions, and make the engineers around you better. A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone. Roblox’s database team develops the next-generation, multi-tenant database platform that elastically scales and underpins every online data workload at Roblox. As a senior engineer on the database team, you will shape the architecture, build and launch critical database capabilities that keep our services fast, reliable and efficient at global scale. You will report to the Technical Director for Storage. You will: Design and implement new engine features —indexing, storage formats, WAL and replication protocols, sharding, and query-planner enhancements—that push latency, throughput, and availability boundaries. Evolve the control plane to deliver elastic scaling, autonomous healing, and zero-downtime schema or tenant moves across global regions. Profile and optimize critical code paths using kernel-level tracing and advanced performance tooling; drive systematic tail-latency reductions. Establish engineering best practices by leading design reviews, performance benchmarks, failure drills, and post-incident retrospectives. Automate everything : develop frameworks for testing, CI/CD, rollout safety, observability, and autoscaling so that the platform operates hands-off at scale. Mentor and unblock engineers , fostering deep database craftsmanship and disseminating knowledge across Storage, Platform, and product teams. Engage with the open-source community —upstreaming patches, presenting learnings, and influencing the future of Postgres, RocksDB and related ecosystems. You have: 6+ years of experience in software engineering or a relevant field Deep experience with building and operating large-scale distributed databases or storage engines (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL/InnoDB, RocksDB, Spanner, Aurora, AlloyDB). Deep expertise in database internals —B-trees, MVCC, WAL, query optimization, buffer management—and strong skills in C/C++, GO or Rust . Hands-on experience with consensus algorithms (Raft, Paxos) and multi-region replication models that deliver strong consistency and high availability. Proven success shipping high-QPS, low-latency services on container orchestration stacks (Kubernetes or Nomad) with comprehensive observability. Ability to turn ambiguous product requirements into a clear technical roadmap and influence cross-functional stakeholders. Passion for automation, rigorous testing, and data-driven decision-making that raises the reliability and efficiency bar. Bonus: upstream contributions to PostgreSQL, RocksDB or other OSS databases; familiarity with disaggregated storage, HTAP workloads, or custom query languages. Job Description The Geometry Scalability team builds the systems that power both Avatars and Environments across Roblox. Our mission is to enable millions of developers to build large, high-fidelity worlds and multiplayer experiences that still run smoothly on phones and low-end devices. We’re the team that lets Roblox experiences evolve from simple platformers into massively multiplayer, open-world, AAA-quality games. This is a CEO-level priority: how Roblox “ages up” from kids’ games to experiences everyone wants to play, by making higher-fidelity avatars and environments performant at platform scale. You Will: Design and ship 3D engine systems for avatar and environment geometry, including mesh processing, level of detail, transcoding, streaming, runtime loading, and related performance systems. Partner closely with other teams (Rendering, Avatar, Studio) and external developers so that the features you build are directly usable to create amazing experiences. Profile and improve the performance of our game engine across a wide range of devices, with particular attention to mobile. Lead by example: drive projects end-to-end, mentor other engineers, and help set a high bar for technical quality and code health on the team. You Have: Proven Expertise: 8+ years of professional experience building and shipping high-performance systems in domains such as game engines, real-time simulation, robotics, AR/VR, or similar. Strong C++ Experience: Deep proficiency in C++, with a focus on writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code in large codebases. Applied 3D Systems Experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience building at least one production system involving real-time 3D rendering, mesh or geometry processing, LOD, animation/skinning, spatial data, 3D asset pipelines, or GPU/client performance. Deep specialization in one area is not required, but meaningful hands-on experience is. Real-time Performance Mindset: Experience diagnosing tradeoffs among CPU/GPU time, memory, loading latency, visual quality, and frame-time stability on constrained platforms such as mobile or console. Ownership in Ambiguity: A track record of driving work end-to-end when the problem wasn't fully specified: defining the approach yourself, seeing it through implementation, rollout, and production consequences; gathering more information when requirements didn't make sense. Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work effectively across teams (Engine, Rendering, Avatar, Studio, and developer-facing teams) and explain complex technical topics clearly to different audiences. For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand.
