Partner on Product Strategy: Collaborate directly with Product Management to identify high-impact merchant workflows, translating ambiguous merchant problems into simple, high-velocity technical solutions. Maintain Operational Rigor: Own your code in production. Monitor live performance, minimize end-to-end streaming latency, champion security compliance, and lead root-cause analysis for live incidents. Engineering AI for Production: Move beyond the "sandbox". Build robust evaluation frameworks, latency-optimized streaming, and observability layers that ensure AI-driven features are reliable, secure, and ready for critical financial operations. Distributed Excellence: Proven track record of collaborating across global engineering hubs, effectively aligning remote teams on technical decisions, and driving documentation-first communication. Who You Are Full-Stack Technical Depth: Deeply proficient in Java for high-concurrency backend services, with architectural competence to integrate and support Agentic workflows (Python). Experienced with Vue/Preact for complex, stateful web applications. Applied AI Systems & Safety: Hands-on experience (or strong architectural competence) with production-grade Agentic AI integrations, including policy layers, evaluation frameworks, RAG architectures, and deterministic execution boundaries. Security-First Mindset: A "security-by-design" approach to handling sensitive financial data, user authorization, and zero-trust access in web environments. High Ownership & Influence: Comfortable driving cross-team technical alignment, mentoring engineers, conducting rigorous code reviews, and collaborating with global engineering hubs. Join the People Tech Team at Adyen At Adyen, we believe people are our greatest asset and we want to ensure we deliver the best employee experience globally. People Technology is evolving rapidly from a traditional HRIS function into a high-leverage Product & Engineering Engine . As part of our Build HR Technology & Analytics team, we are looking for a People Technology Applications Engineer based out of our Amsterdam office. In this role, you will lead the application and integration engineering layer for our People organization. You will design, build, and maintain custom applications, API middleware, automated workflows, and system-to-system integrations across our Workday ecosystem and enterprise tools. You will think beyond individual SaaS platforms to establish scalable application architecture, low-code/custom code solutions, and seamless user experiences. What you'll do Engineer application & integration solutions: Design, develop, and maintain custom applications, programmatic API integrations, webhooks, and middleware connecting Workday HCM with Greenhouse, Qualtrics, Docebo, Slack, and internal platforms. Programming & API Proficiency: Strong hands-on proficiency in Python (FastAPI/Flask), React, and web technology fundamentals (REST APIs, JSON, Webhooks, OAuth, SQL (Postgre)). Integration & Middleware Tech: Demonstrated experience with integration platforms (iPaaS), event-driven architectures, or middleware tools. HRIS & Ecosystem Knowledge: Hands-on experience or familiarity with enterprise SaaS platforms (Workday APIs, Workday Extend, Studio, or similar cloud ecosystems). Security-First Mindset: In-depth knowledge of application security, fine-grained access management, and privacy-by-design principles. Engineering Mindset & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, strong problem-solving ability, and a drive to challenge requirements constructively to deliver scalable architectures. What success will look like Workday and our broader SaaS ecosystem are connected through reliable, maintainable API integrations rather than brittle point-to-point fixes. Repetitive manual tasks and system friction are systematically eliminated through clean Python automation and custom app extensions. Reusable application foundations, middleware, and documentation exist, allowing new People Tech features to be built faster. Security and privacy boundaries are seamlessly embedded into every deployed application and integration. Ready to Shape the Future of People Tech? This is Adyen Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition. For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster. Senior Software Engineer, Lending Build lending at Adyen from the first line of code. Businesses run on Adyen: they accept payments, manage their money and issue cards on our platform. Access to capital has been the missing piece, and we're building it now. Lending at Adyen is a brand-new team, and we're looking for the engineers who will lay its foundations. Our advantage is data. We already see how a business actually performs through its payment flows, so we can offer fast, fair financing, embedded directly in the platforms our customers use every day. That lets us serve businesses that traditional lenders overlook, without the long paperwork process. This is a true zero-to-one opportunity. There's no legacy system to maintain and no roadmap handed down from above. You'll help decide what we build, how we build it, and which trade-offs we make. You'll be part of a small team with the backing, scale and customer base of a global company. What you’ll do: Design and build core lending systems from scratch, including loan origination, underwriting and decisioning engines, repayment flows and the ledgers that track every cent. Turn ambiguous problems into shipped products, working closely with product, risk, finance and legal partners. Make foundational architecture decisions that will shape how lending scales across markets and regulatory jurisdictions. Build for integrity from day one. In lending, correctness, auditability and resilience are the product. Own your work end to end: requirements, design, implementation, testing, launch and iteration based on real customer feedback. Help shape the team's engineering culture, practices and standards while they're still being written. Who you are: You take ownership. You care about the customer problem, not just the ticket. You enjoy building something from nothing and are comfortable when the path isn't mapped out yet. You have a good understanding of Software Engineering practices and interest in product knowledge. You are familiar with complex large scale distributed systems. You value involving other people to hear different perspectives. You balance speed with rigor. You know when to ship and learn, and when to slow down and get it exactly right. You're curious about financial products and are eager to learn how lending works, even if you haven't worked in it before. You value collaboration and seek out different perspectives to make better decisions. Minimum qualifications: 8+ years of software development experience. Experience with Java, web services, REST APIs, webhooks and SQL/PostgreSQL. Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems. Full professional proficiency in English. This role is based out of our San Francisco office. We are an office-first company and value in-person collaboration; we do not offer remote-only roles. The annual base salary range for this role is $190,000 - $290,000; to learn more about our compensation philosophy, please click here .
