Senior AI Security Engineer
IT Security
Who we are Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale. Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the role: Samsara is building a brand-new role at the intersection of security engineering and applied AI. This person will be the most AI-forward technologist on our Application Security team — using frontier AI models to both strengthen our security posture and stress-test it. You'll spend one day using AI to red-team our cloud environment and the next validating firmware vulnerabilities on our hardware, with the goal to secure our applications for AI Adversaries. This is a highly visible, org-wide role reporting into a newly formed function, with a clear path to shape Samsara's AI security strategy for years to come. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area. You should apply if: You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact – helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely. You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment. You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers. You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best. In this role, you will: Deliver accurate, consistent security assessments of Samsara's software, code, and firmware, evaluating their resilience against AI-driven/adversarial attacks, and implementing fixes. Create and translate general AI security findings into Samsara-specific fixes for our application security layer— including adapting techniques built for software to apply to hardware and embedded firmware. Build and pressure-test novel AI-enabled security tooling and workflows, then drive adoption of what proves valuable across the broader security org. Partner cross-functionally with engineering, hardware, and leadership (including VP-level threat modeling sessions) as Samsara's go-to expert on AI-related security risk. Help define & drive Samsara's medium- and long-term strategy for adopting AI safely and effectively within security operations. Use frontier AI/LLM tools (e.g., Anthropic's and OpenAI's cybersecurity-specific programs) hands-on for both offensive validation (red-teaming our own systems) and defensive tooling — required experience integrating, securing, or red-teaming AI-enabled systems (e.g., LLMs, agentic workflows, prompt injection/adversarial testing) is essential to this role. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices Minimum requirements for the role: 8+ years of experience in application security, vulnerability management, threat modeling, offensive security, or a closely related discipline, with demonstrated application fix impact and influence across a large part of an organization. Hands-on experience applying AI/LLM tools to real security workflows (not just using AI as an end user) — e.g., building with APIs, agents, or automation to support security use cases. Experience conducting technical security assessments (e.g. offensive security or validation exercises) across both software and hardware/firmware environments. Experience in creating solutions for secure code with engineers using languages such as GoLang. Experience developing AI and agentic solutions using Github, and developing within AWS cloud. An ideal candidate also has: Experience with AI-specific attack techniques (prompt injection, jailbreaks, model/agent abuse) for vulnerability management and application security. Experience building or validating security controls for agentic AI, RAG systems, or LLM-integrated platforms. A track record of driving org-wide security strategy or presenting technical findings to senior/executive stakeholders. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., OSCP, GIAC, CISSP) or AWS certifications. The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. About this role: Commercial Navigation helps fleets turn planned work into guided trips that are safe, efficient, and visible to the people running the operation. We build navigation inside the Samsara Driver app and the supporting experiences around it: mobile guidance on the road, session review for fleet managers, fuel-aware routing, and safety-focused improvements that show up where drivers actually drive. The team has a real foundation in production, and there is still a lot of greenfield ahead as we expand what navigation means for commercial fleets. We are looking for a product-minded senior engineer who can own ambiguous problems end to end, make practical tradeoffs across surfaces, and ship work that holds up in the field. You will contribute across mobile, backend services, and web as needed, with judgment about what matters most for customers rather than a fixed layer of the stack. This is a deeply technical problem space that blends real-time data, thoughtful UX, and platform-wide coordination to create a seamless experience under challenging conditions, like poor connectivity, dynamic job schedules, and constantly changing routes. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US and Canada. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role. Deliver with High Engineering Standards: Write maintainable, well-tested code and hold a high bar in design and code review. Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted workflows, with sound judgment. Improve observability, testing, and the systems that keep navigation reliable in production. Build Across the Product: Design and ship features across mobile, backend services, and web—driver navigation experiences, admin visibility, optimized routing, and safety-focused navigation capabilities. Turn Ambiguity into Action: Clarify what you are building and why: learn from fleet managers and drivers, align with the product team on priorities, define success metrics, plan milestones, and raise risks and tradeoffs before they become surprises. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and partners in Maps, Telematics, and adjacent teams to deliver cohesive navigation experiences end to end. About the role: We're building the next chapter: an agentic platform that understands operational context and takes action, with the ambition to make physical operations increasingly autonomous. External Platform EMEA owns critical capabilities behind that transition. Depending on the team, your work could include: Reporting and intelligence. Own the reporting engine and products that turn the complexity of a fleet into answers customers can act on. Enterprise administration. Build how customers configure and control Samsara at scale, from permissions and device metadata to AI-assisted onboarding. Developer and agent platform. Build APIs, event systems, integrations, and tools that give applications and AI agents access to operational data and actions. Business-critical infrastructure. Own billing, license assignment, and usage metering: systems central to how Samsara sells, delivers, and grows its products. The long-term opportunity is rooted in the physical world. Deployed hardware, data generated at the edge, and years of operational expertise form a foundation that's hard to replicate. As AI advances, it expands what we can build on that foundation. This is a place to develop deep engineering expertise while helping shape a platform with years of ambitious work ahead. AI is also central to how we build. We expect engineers to push tools like Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor throughout design, implementation, testing, and production investigations, taking on more ambitious work while owning the quality of what they ship. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in Poland. In this role, you will: Build foundational capabilities for Samsara’s agentic experiences, enabling AI agents to securely discover data, use tools, integrate with external systems, and execute reliable workflows at enterprise scale. Design systems for high throughput, availability, observability, security, and maintainability. Apply AI assistants, including Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor - across design, implementation, testing, debugging, and code review. Improve frameworks, tooling, and engineering practices that increase the effectiveness of teams across Samsara. Mentor other engineers and contribute to architectural decisions and technical strategy. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team Minimum requirements for the role: 4+ years of relevant engineering experience , with a track record of shipping and improving production software. Proven end-to-end ownership of a product, substantial feature, or subsystem through design, implementation, launch, and iteration. Ability to take a clear customer or business challenge, independently choose a technical approach, and balance delivery speed, quality, and maintainability. Experience driving delivery with engineers and product or design partners, and helping teammates improve through reviews, technical feedback, or mentoring. Extensive practical use of AI across investigation, design, implementation, testing, and review, while owning the correctness and quality of the result. An ideal candidate also has: Designing and operating public-facing REST or GraphQL APIs. High-throughput event-streaming platform. Building extensible integration or application frameworks. Distributed data-fetching, query execution, reporting, or analytical systems. Experience in any one of these areas is a plus. Exposure should come from production work. Reporting and data systems: Reporting products, analytics, query execution, data retrieval, or turning complex datasets into useful customer experiences. Enterprise administration: Permissions and access control, entity metadata, configuration frameworks, or customer onboarding and setup automation. Developer and agent platforms: Public APIs, event-driven systems, integrations, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, or tools that let AI agents access data and take action. Billing and monetization: Billing systems, license assignment, product entitlements, or usage metering supporting how a business sells and delivers its products. Full-stack product development: Building complete customer experiences across frontend interfaces, backend services, and data models. About the role: Samsara's AI has helped prevent accidents that would have harmed an estimated 380,000 people per year. Every model we ship runs in the real world, on real roads, protecting real drivers. Every Samsara dash cam, gateway, and industrial sensor runs AI at the edge. These models detect distracted driving, prevent collisions, and keep workers safe, all in real time on constrained hardware. You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes. You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win – together. In this role, you will: Lead a team of ~5 firmware and ML engineers. Your team builds, optimizes, and deploys AI models on Samsara's fleet and industrial devices. Your work directly affects whether a driver gets a warning before a collision, not after. Provide hands-on technical leadership. Lead from the front technically, contributing directly to the design, implementation, and optimization of high-performance production systems. Set the technical bar for edge ML and embedded systems. You'll guide architecture decisions on latency, power, memory, and model performance, and mentor engineers to go deep on problems most teams never touch. Turn new AI capabilities into shipped products. You'll partner with Product, Hardware, and Full-stack teams to take features from concept to deployment on devices. You'll also keep improving the ones customers rely on every day. Shape the roadmap. You'll work with leadership on quarterly plans that balance product ambition with engineering health, and make the tradeoffs that deliver the most customer impact. Build a team people want to join and stay on. You'll create a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement, with a high bar for execution quality and room for people to grow. Scale Samsara's culture as we grow globally. You'll champion and role model our principles as the team expands across new offices: Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, and Win as a Team. Hire and develop top talent. You'll grow an inclusive, engaged, high-performing team, and help define what great edge AI engineering looks like at Samsara. Minimum requirements for the role: 3+ years of hands-on execution-oriented technical management experience. 8+ years of experience in embedded systems and edge machine learning development. Proficiency in gstreamer, Google MediaPipe, or similar edge AI/Media frameworks. Experience with data analysis using tools such as Databricks, SQL queries, Tableau. Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent field. The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below.
