About the Role Remote, with travel to events We’re looking for a Senior Developer Advocate to help more developers discover Viam, understand what’s possible with the platform, and start building with it. Our Developer Advocacy team is currently based in New York, and we’re expanding our presence on the West Coast. You’ll report to the SVP of Product & Education. In this role, you’ll build creative software and hardware projects, turn those projects into content and experiences others can learn from and try themselves, and represent Viam across developer communities through events, workshops, and online engagement. Projects can span a wide range of ideas—from a robotic arm that sorts objects or a computer-vision-powered machine to a smart device or an experiment with emerging physical AI technology. What you’ll do: Represent Viam at conferences, meetups, hackathons, and other developer events through speaking, teaching, and building alongside developers. Build creative robotics projects that show developers what’s possible with Viam. Turn what you build and learn into technical content, including tutorials, videos, sample code, workshops, demos, and talks. Grow engagement across Viam’s Discord and other developer communities, while building your own credibility and presence in the technical communities that matter to our audience. Experiment with emerging technologies and developer tools, and identify timely opportunities for Viam to build, teach, or participate. Build, assemble, test, and troubleshoot the software and hardware behind demos and projects. Bring feedback from developers back to Product and Engineering, and use engagement and platform activation to understand what’s working and where to focus next. What you bring: A track record of creating high-quality technical content for developers, such as tutorials, videos, sample projects, workshops, or talks. Experience as a software engineer building, shipping, and maintaining production software used by real users. Experience with Python, Go, C++, or TypeScript is especially relevant. Strong technical judgment and the ability to independently scope, build, debug, and iterate on software projects with limited direction. Hands-on experience with hardware, IoT, embedded systems, electronics, maker projects, or similar physical systems. Professional robotics experience is not required. Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly without losing technical depth. A strong understanding of how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new technologies. Comfort speaking publicly, teaching, appearing on video, and engaging directly with developer communities. Ability to move quickly, experiment often, and decide both what is worth building and how to build it. Comfort traveling and participating in occasional evening or weekend events. Viam's products are built by engineers, for engineers. We want to build a platform we would want to use ourselves. We are looking for students studying computer science or related fields to collaborate with our full-time engineers on building out the software for our platform. Our current tech stack consists of Golang (backend), ES.Next/TypeScript/Svelte/Vue.js (frontend), Linux, MongoDB (database), and a variety of hardware. This is a software engineering internship, not hardware.
